Our client in the Stored Energy and Power Solutions sector are currently seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer to be based at their Shah Alam facility.
In this role, you will serve as the critical technical interface between the design authority and external Contract Manufacturing (CM) partners. Operating within the Power Electronics Center of Excellence, you will apply robust Design for Excellence (DfX) principles early in the development cycle to optimize next-generation energy storage and power products for manufacturability, quality, cost, and global scalability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Contract Manufacturer Support
- Serve as the primary manufacturing engineering point of contact for the Power Electronics Center of Excellence, supporting activities at assigned contract manufacturing partners.
- Work to evaluate and develop key capabilities at strategic partners. (PCBA assembly, mechanical and electrical systems assembly, power electronics).
- Provide technical support to ensure CMs meet manufacturing, quality, yield, cost, and delivery expectations.
- Review and approve manufacturing processes, work instructions, tooling, equipment, and controls used at CMs.
2. Design for Excellence (DfX)
- Apply Design for Excellence principles (including DFM, DFA, DFQ, DFC, DFR, and DFS as appropriate) to influence product designs early in the development cycle.
- Partner with Design Engineering to ensure product designs are optimized for contract manufacturing, scalability, cost targets, and quality objectives.
- Lead or support structured DfX reviews, identifying manufacturing risks, cost drivers, complexity drivers, and improvement opportunities.
- Provide clear, actionable feedback to design teams and suppliers to drive design improvements prior to NPI release.
- Ensure design decisions align with contract manufacturer process capabilities, equipment constraints, and supply chain considerations.
3. New Product Introduction (NPI) & Product Transfer
- Support NPI and product transfer activities to contract manufacturers, ensuring manufacturability and readiness for production.
- Lead or participate in DFM/DFA reviews, pilot builds, and process validations in collaboration with CMs.
- Ensure manufacturing requirements, critical-to-quality characteristics, and process assumptions are validated prior to production release.
4. Process Control & Continuous Improvement
- Drive process capability, yield improvement, and cost reduction initiatives at contract manufacturers.
- Identify manufacturing risks and lead corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) related to design, process, or supplier issues.
- Promote standardization of manufacturing, inspection, and quality practices across contract manufacturing partners.
5. Quality & Compliance
- Support root cause analysis and resolution of manufacturing and quality issues, including those related to design robustness and process capability.
- Ensure contract manufacturers comply with company quality systems, regulatory requirements, and applicable industry standards.
- Participate in CM audits and support corrective action closure related to design and process gaps.
6. Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Design Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management to align DfX, manufacturing, and supplier requirements.
- Communicate manufacturing readiness, DfX findings, risks, and performance metrics to internal stakeholders.
- Support supplier selection by evaluating process capability and design compatibility during sourcing decisions.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Proven experience supporting manufacturing operations within a contract manufacturing (CM) or supplier-managed environment.
- Strong, demonstrable understanding of Design for Excellence (DFM/DFA) concepts.
- Experience handling root cause analysis, structured troubleshooting, and corrective action implementations (CAPA, 8D).
- Strong communication skills with a track record of influencing cross-functional teams and external vendors without direct authority.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Deep experience supporting power electronics, electromechanical systems, battery/stored energy systems, or complex assembly manufacturing.
- Familiarity with APQP / PPAP, NPI frameworks, and structured product transfer methodologies.
- Practical experience working with global or regional (ASEAN) contract manufacturers.
- Certifications in Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent continuous improvement methodologies.
Work Environment & Travel
- Combination of office‑based work and contract manufacturer site support.
- Frequent domestic and/or international travel may be required.
