Job Description

Department: Production / Operations

Employment Type: Full-Time

Location: Pulau Indah, Selangor, Malaysia

Reports To: General Manager, Supply Chain & Operations

Salary Package: Up to RM10,000 (negotiable)

1. Job Purpose

The Plant Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, planning, and coordination of plant operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant manufacturing activities. This role ensures full compliance with Malaysian regulatory requirements, including OSHA 1994, the Factories and Machinery Act, DOSH guidelines, and internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

The Plant Manager oversees production performance, manpower deployment, safety and environmental compliance, quality standards, cost control, and continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Plant Operations Management

  • Oversee day-to-day production activities to achieve optimal output, efficiency, and on-time delivery.
  • Ensure all plant operations comply with Malaysian statutory and regulatory requirements (OSHA 1994, FMA, DOSH).
  • Monitor production processes, equipment performance, and key plant KPIs.
  • Implement operational strategies to meet production targets, quality standards, and customer requirements.
  • Ensure machinery and equipment are operated safely and maintained in accordance with SOPs and manufacturer specifications.

B. Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)

  • Enforce workplace safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with DOSH requirements, including safety audits, risk assessments, and chemical handling standards.
  • Lead toolbox meetings, near-miss reporting, and incident investigations.
  • Work closely with the Safety Officer and HR to promote and maintain a safe working environment.

C. Quality Control & Compliance

  • Ensure production output meets required quality standards, including ISO requirements, internal QMS, and customer specifications.
  • Collaborate with the QA/QC team to address quality issues, non-conformities, and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate records for inspections, audits, certifications, and compliance reviews.

D. People Management

  • Lead, coach, motivate, and supervise production staff and line leaders.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, manage disciplinary actions, and monitor attendance in accordance with HR policies.
  • Identify training and development needs and coordinate with HR to enhance workforce competency.

E. Maintenance & Technical Support

  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Department to ensure preventive and predictive maintenance programs are effectively implemented.
  • Minimise equipment breakdowns, failures, and unplanned downtime.
  • Monitor maintenance costs and ensure effective spare parts planning.

F. Cost Control & Resource Planning

  • Manage production budgets, utilities usage, and cost optimisation initiatives.
  • Ensure efficient utilisation of materials, manpower, and equipment.
  • Analyse production and cost reports and propose continuous cost-reduction measures.

G. Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly production reports for management review.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, logs, statutory documentation, and compliance reports.
  • Support the development, review, and implementation of SOPs, work instructions, and risk assessments.

3. Required Competencies

  • Leadership & People Management: Ability to lead teams, manage conflicts, and drive performance.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong capability to analyse production data and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Problem-Solving: Able to troubleshoot operational issues effectively and decisively.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
  • Planning & Organisation: Ability to prioritise tasks, manage schedules, and meet deadlines.
  • Quality & Safety Orientation: Strong commitment to compliance, safety, and continuous improvement.

4. Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 58 years experience in plant or production management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ISO, GMP, HACCP, or similar standards is an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of Malaysian regulatory and compliance requirements (OSHA, DOSH, FMA).
  • Proven experience managing a large workforce and multi-shift operations.

5. Language Requirements

  • Bahasa Malaysia Required
  • English Required
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, safety procedures, and regulatory guidelines.

6. Physical & Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily conducted in a plant or factory environment with moderate noise levels.
  • Requires regular walking, standing, and on-site monitoring of operations.
  • Mandatory compliance with PPE requirements (safety shoes, helmet, goggles, etc.).
  • Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required based on operational needs.

7. Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of line leaders, production supervisors, and plant operators.
  • Responsible for manpower planning, shift scheduling, job rotation, and performance evaluation.

8. Additional Requirements

  • High integrity, strong ownership of plant KPIs, and commitment to results.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight operational deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel to other company sites when required.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the fertiliser industry is an added advantage.
