About the Role
Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) is seeking a qualified and motivated Marine Trainee Pilot to join our Marine Services Department.
This role is critical in ensuring the safe navigation of vessels within PTP Port Limits. As part of the pilotage team, you will be responsible for supporting safe vessel movements, maintaining compliance with maritime regulations, and responding effectively to marine operational requirements and emergencies.
Key Responsibilities
Pilotage & Vessel Navigation
- Pilot vessels safely within PTP Port Limits.
- Ensure safe berthing, un-berthing, mooring, unmooring, anchoring, arrival and departure of vessels.
- Advise and coordinate with Port Control to ensure safe and efficient marine operations.
- Seek guidance and adhere to instructions from the Senior Pilot on duty.
Marine Operations & Safety Oversight
- Monitor and supervise tugboats, pilot boats, mooring services, and personnel performance.
- Ensure compliance with local and international maritime regulations.
- Maintain navigational safety standards and marine service efficiency.
- Respond to marine emergencies when required.
Communication & Reporting
- Ensure all communication and navigational equipment are functioning properly.
- Report irregularities relating to navigation aids, marine pollution, accidents, or other threats.
- Submit marine operational data promptly to support billing and system records.
- Ensure adherence to Information Security and IT policies.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Minimum Diploma in Nautical Studies.
- Certificate of Competency (COC) Class 3.
Experience
- At least 1 year experience as Watch Keeping Officer (WKO) onboard a Foreign Going vessel.
- Practical exposure to ship handling and ship stability operations.
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of ship handling and navigation.
- Knowledge of local waters and port environment.
- Familiar with Local and International maritime conventions, rules, regulations, acts, and laws.
- Knowledge of marine emergency procedures.
Skills & Attributes
- Fluent in Bahasa Melayu and English (spoken & written).
- Strong communication and decision-making skills.
- Able to work on shift rotation.
- High level of situational awareness and safety mindset.
- Ability to perform under pressure in operational environments.
