Company Description SGB MY is part of the SGB-SMIT Group from Germany, a transformer manufacturer with over 100 years of collective experience. Established in 1994 in Malaysia, SGB MY specializes in the production of high-quality power equipment for diverse industrial and utility applications. The company manufactures oil-immersed transformers up to 40MVA, 69kV voltage class, cast resin transformers up to 6.3MVA, and compact substations. As a member of a global group, SGB MY offers exposure to international standards, engineering practices, and long-term career development in the transformer industry.

Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Mechanical Design Engineer role based in Seremban. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing mechanical components and assemblies for transformers and related products, using CAD tools and established engineering standards. Daily tasks include developing and reviewing design drawings, performing mechanical calculations, preparing technical documentation, and collaborating with electrical engineers, production, and quality teams. The role involves optimizing product designs for manufacturability, reliability, and safety, supporting prototype build and testing, and providing engineering input for cost, material selection, and process improvements. The engineer will also assist in resolving design-related issues on the shop floor and contribute to continuous improvement of design workflows and standards.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering and Design Engineering, with the ability to apply engineering principles to transformer and industrial product design.
  • Proficiency in Machine Design and Product Design, including component selection, structural design, and consideration of manufacturability and durability.
  • Hands-on experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar) for creating 2D drawings and 3D models.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, standards, and engineering drawings, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience in transformer manufacturing, heavy equipment, or power industry is an advantage.
  • Good problem-solving skills, strong analytical capability, and a structured approach to design validation.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on-site.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, safety requirements, and quality assurance processes is beneficial.
