Vacancy: Medical Lab Scientist

Company: MyRNA Sdn Bhd (a Joint Venture entity of Xeraya Capital & MiRXES Singapore)

Location: Cyberjaya, Selangor | Employment: Full-time (open to 24-months contract)

About MyRNA

MyRNA is building Malaysia's leading miRNA-centric diagnostics platform—localizing and scaling early cancer detection and specialty tests (e.g., GastroClear, LungClear, etc). We partner with public and private health systems across Malaysia and ASEAN to improve access, turnaround time, and affordability.

Role Snapshot

The Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist will support MyRNA Diagnostics laboratory operations by performing high-quality diagnostic testing, maintaining strict compliance with laboratory standards, and ensuring accurate and timely delivery of results. This role plays an essential part in supporting molecular diagnostics, R&D activities, and overall laboratory quality assurance.

What you'll do

Diagnostic Testing & Laboratory Operations

  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests including RT-PCR, qPCR, molecular assays, and other diagnostic procedures according to SOPs.
  • Conduct sample preparation, extraction, amplification, quantification, and validation.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of results in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Quality Control (QC) & Quality Assurance (QA)

  • Conduct daily QC checks, instrument calibration, and proficiency tests as required by laboratory regulations.
  • Monitor reagents expiry, storage conditions, and stock levels.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO15189 or relevant quality standards.
  • Report non-conformities and assist in corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).

Laboratory Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment.
  • Ensure adherence to biosafety levels, waste disposal SOPs, and chemical handling guidelines.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory requirements (KKM, MDA, etc.).

Research & Development Support

  • Assist R&D scientists with experimental setups, data collection, and documentation.
  • Conduct validation studies for new assays, kits, or equipment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of testing methods and workflows.

Equipment Handling & Maintenance

  • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments such as PCR machines, centrifuges, biosafety cabinets, analyzers, etc.
  • Schedule maintenance and liaise with vendors for servicing and repairs.
  • Ensure equipment performance meets required diagnostic standards.

Administrative & Reporting

  • Prepare and update laboratory reports, inventory lists, and tracking logs.
  • Support procurement by identifying needs for reagents, consumables, and equipment.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and laboratory data.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Biomedical Science, Biotechnology, or equivalent.
  • Preferably registered with the Malaysian Allied Health Professions Council.
  • 3–5 years experience in a clinical or molecular diagnostic laboratory.
  • Strong practical experience in RT-PCR, qPCR, molecular extraction, and diagnostic workflows.
  • Good understanding of ISO15189 quality systems and regulatory expectations.
  • Familiarity with LIMS and digital laboratory documentation.
  • Able to troubleshoot technical issues effectively and independently.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and laboratory discipline.
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Positive, collaborative, and solution-oriented attitude.
  • Willingness to work occasional evening shifts and Saturday rotations.

Success in 6–24 months (indicative KPIs)

Diagnostic Accuracy

  • Maintain ≥ 98% accuracy for all test results.
  • Zero critical testing errors per quarter.

Turnaround Time (TAT)

  • Achieve ≥ 95% on-time completion of assigned tests.
  • No more than 3 delays per quarter.

Compliance & Quality

  • Zero major non-compliances in internal or external audits.
  • Complete 100% QC logs and documentation every month.

Equipment & Inventory

  • 100% on-time equipment calibration and maintenance.
  • Zero stock-out incidents for critical consumables.

Team Support & Training

  • Train or guide at least 1–2 junior staff/interns during the contract period.
  • Maintain a minimum teamwork rating of 4/5 in internal evaluations.

Safety & Discipline

  • Zero safety breaches.
  • ≤ 2 lateness incidents per quarter.
