The Network Engineer (L2) is a developing engineering role, responsible for providing a professional second-line remote and/or onsite technical support and field engineering service to clients by proactively identifying and resolving technical incidents and problems.
Through pre-emptive service incident and resolution activities, this role restores service to clients by managing incidents and seeing them through to an effective resolution.
The primary objective of this role is to ensure all requests, process events and resolution incidents result in zero missed Service Level Agreement (SLA) conditions.
The Network Engineer (L2) is responsible for managing standard and low complexity incidents, conducting routine, repetitive tasks whilst using readily available information and following standard practices and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities
- Deploy, configure, maintain and troubleshoot enterprise network infrastructure including Cisco routers and switches (core, aggregation, access) and Cisco Prime and ISE.
- Implement and support wireless LAN solutions using Cisco and Aruba hardware (controllers, access points, ClearPass or equivalent).
- Provide operational support for LAN/WAN/WLAN environments: routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), switching (VLAN, STP/RSTP/MST), network access controls (802.1X, RADIUS/TACACS), NAT, VPN, QoS, etc.
- Work on network documentation: diagrams (HLD/LLD), run books, change records, operational procedures.
- Collaborate with solution, architecture and project teams to plan network upgrades, technology refreshes, migrations and expansions.
- Provide onsite or remote support as required; may include after-hours support or travel to branch/off-site locations.
- Ensure adherence to standard processes (change management, incident management, problem management) and collaborate with security/compliance teams for network hardening.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Telecommunications or relevant discipline (or equivalent work experience).
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience working with Cisco routing & switching in a medium/large enterprise or telco environment.
- Proven hands-on experience with Cisco and Aruba wireless (access points, controllers, WLAN management) in an enterprise, campus and Branch offices.
- Solid knowledge of LAN/WAN protocols: OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, MPLS, VPNs, VLANs, STP/RSTP/MSTP, QoS, IP routing, NAT etc.
- Good troubleshooting skills: packet capture/analysis, understanding of TCP/IP suite, ability to isolate network issues end-to-end.
- Good communication skills in English; ability to work with stakeholders across teams.
- Certifications are an advantage: e.g., Cisco CCNA/CCNP Enterprise/CCNP wireless, Aruba ACCA/ACMP vendor certifications.
- Self-starter, able to work independently and as part of a team, with strong analytical skills.
