Summary
As a New Product Development (NPD) Engineer specializing in Ceramics, Candidate will serve as a technical bridge between material innovation and mass production. You will lead the development of ceramic products, optimizing material formulations, sintering cycles, and firing processes to meet stringent physical and structural requirements. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who thrives in a technical, production-oriented environment and is obsessed with achieving material integrity and process consistency.
Responsibilities:
● Material Development: Lead the research, formulation, and testing of ceramic materials (e.g., Alumina, Zirconia, Silica) to meet application-specific mechanical, thermal, and electrical requirements.
● Process Optimization: Manage and refine sintering cycles, kiln management, and firing profiles to ensure consistent material density, minimize shrinkage, and prevent structural defects (cracking, warping).
● Product Validation: Execute trials for new ceramic components, performing material integrity testing and data analysis to validate design concepts.
● Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including Process Flow, Control Plans, FMEA, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
● Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Production, Quality, and Procurement teams to resolve production issues and ensure a seamless transition from NPD to mass production.
● Continuous Improvement: Drive Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) initiatives to reduce costs, improve throughput, and enhance product quality.
Requirements:
● Education: Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Material Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
● Technical Expertise: Proven experience in ceramic processing, specifically green body preparation and kiln/furnace management.
● Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze material shrinkage, density, and structural integrity data.
● Problem-Solving: Hands-on experience troubleshooting firing profiles and material defects.
● Tools:* Familiarity with laboratory testing equipment and basic CAD software for tooling design.
● [Optional] Experience with powder metallurgy or advanced forming technologies (e.g., injection molding, pressing).
● [Optional] Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments, preferably in semiconductor or industrial components.
● [Optional] Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems and technical document control.
