Summary
The Buying Team Leader (Night Shift) is responsible for planning, procuring, and managing materials from US suppliers to meet manufacturing production schedules. Operating during the night shift, this role ensures seamless materials availability, coordinates closely with day-shift counterparts, resolves supply chain bottlenecks, and maintains optimal inventory levels.
Key Responsibilities
Material Planning & Procurement
- Plan and procure necessary materials to support manufacturing requirements for designated product lines with US suppliers.
- Review forecasted requirements to purchase materials proactively and align with production goals.
- Balance material availability with inventory turnover to prevent excessive inventory holding costs.
- Resolve critical clear to build shortages and handle PO clean-ups and confirmations with US suppliers.
- Maintain high-quality, accurate data in the materials requirements plan, adjusting plans as needed based on actual-versus-planned performance.
Production Scheduling & Logistics
- Schedule material requirements in alignment with customer forecasts and manufacturing production targets.
- Analyze key inputs (e.g., capacity, board cycle times, request urgency, material availability) to assist in schedule determination.
- Assess the internal impact of customer scheduling on line scheduling, procurement, logistics, and shipping, pushing or cancelling orders as required.
- Collaborate with local and global logistics teams to identify opportunities for reducing freight costs.
Supplier & Financial Management
- Qualify new suppliers through surveys and site visits, and coordinate with the Finance department to establish new supplier accounts (IDM).
- Contact suppliers directly to resolve issues, manage Cash in Advance (CIA) payment requests, and address receiving/invoice referrals promptly.
- Partner with Accounts Payable (A/P) to investigate and resolve supplier invoice and payment issues.
- Work with internal stakeholders to manage defective materials, coordinating returns and securing credits.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Handover
- Provide timely, detailed updates to the day shift prime regarding US supplier statuses, schedules, and task assignments.
- Conduct weekly clear to build reviews with the day shift prime.
- Coordinate tasks collaboratively with the day shift prime, MP, and PM.
- Provide feedback on Engineering Change Orders (ECO) to the ECO Coordinator for cut-ins or revision updates, and flag Bill of Materials (BOM) issues to the EC team for correction.
- Update the Customer Focus Team (CFT) on commodity market conditions that could impact material supply.
- Support special customer audits, projects, and purchasing-related issues as required.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience
- Education: Minimum of a Diploma, Advanced/Higher/Graduate Diploma, or Bachelor's Degree in Business Studies, Administration, Management, Economics, Commerce, or a related field.
- Experience: 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in procurement, purchasing, or material planning.
- Shift Requirement:Must be able to work the night shift (23:00 to 08:30).
Technical Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of procurement processes, inventory management, and supplier relations.
- Basic understanding of production planning fundamentals, scheduling, material requirements planning (MRP) techniques, and manufacturing control systems.
- Familiarity with manufacturing environments, department-specific purchased materials, and the engineering change process is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in standard computer applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and multiple business systems.
- Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems, particularly SAP, is a strong advantage.
