What You'll Do

As a Packaging Development Manager based in Petaling Jaya, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of packaging for a diverse range of food products. Your day-to-day activities will involve spearheading innovative packaging projects from concept through implementation while ensuring compliance with industry regulations. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across multiple departments as well as external suppliers to deliver robust solutions that support new product launches and process enhancements. By providing guidance to your team members and nurturing their professional growth, you will foster a culture of continuous improvement. Your ability to stay abreast of emerging trends in materials science and regulatory changes will enable you to introduce cutting-edge technologies that add value to both new product development programmes and existing product lines.

  • Develop, lead, and implement packaging solutions for new or improved products, processes, line extensions, enablers, business continuity, and continuous improvement initiatives including plant and machine equipment changes.
  • Support and coordinate all relevant trials, shelf life assessments, and sensory evaluations to ensure packaging meets quality standards.
  • Serve as subject matter expert in key packaging projects, often driving and coordinating cross-functional teams including suppliers to achieve business objectives.
  • Advise on project packaging scopes, contribute to quality assurance efforts, and assist with troubleshooting at the plant level.
  • Create, maintain, and secure all technical documentation related to packaging development including design of experiments, label keyline creation, and comprehensive validation reports.
  • Provide coaching and supervision to Technologists and Technicians, promoting engagement as well as continuous behavioural, technical, and leadership development within the team.
  • Proactively develop expertise in Packaging Technology theory and practice by bringing new materials and technologies into the business to enhance NPD programmes or improve existing products.
  • Stay up-to-date with regulatory requirements, industry developments, and market trends related to packaging technology.
  • Strengthen partnerships across cross-functional teams such as Marketing, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Finance through effective collaboration.

Your proven track record in packaging development will be instrumental in driving successful outcomes for this role. You bring not only technical expertise but also strong interpersonal skills that enable you to work collaboratively across departments. Your background includes hands-on experience with various packaging componentsranging from cans to laminate filmsand familiarity with manufacturing systems ensures seamless integration of new solutions. You are adept at preparing comprehensive technical documentation while maintaining clear communication channels in both Bahasa Malaysia and English. Your commitment to continuous learning keeps you updated on the latest advancements in materials science and regulatory frameworks. By mentoring junior staff members effectively, you contribute positively towards building a knowledgeable team environment where everyone feels supported.

  • Bachelor's degree majoring in Packaging Technology, Materials Science, Engineering, Food Science or equivalent subject is required for this position.
  • At least 4 years experience in product development as a packaging engineer, technologist or executive; alternatively minimum 5 years experience in packaging manufacturing industry or R&D roles.
  • Comprehensive understanding of packaging technology principles including machinery operation, various component types (such as cans, glass/plastic bottles & laminate films), food packaging requirements and manufacturing/logistics systems.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities along with sound decision-making skills; comfortable dealing with ambiguity while identifying creative opportunities for process improvement.
  • Ability to read and write detailed technical reports including drawings/keylines, design of experiments documentation and packaging specifications.
  • Proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia and English (both verbal and written) is essential for effective communication across teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills combined with proven stakeholder management capabilities are vital for success in this role.
  • Competence with MS Office applications as well as BPCS or BOM systems; basic financial costing knowledge is advantageous.
