About Our Client

We are looking for Payroll Operations Team Lead for our global client for their Japan organization.

As Payroll Operations Team Lead, to lead growing payroll team and ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll delivery across multiple entities. In this role, you will develop scalable processes, implement strong operational controls, and collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the payroll team, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely payroll processing
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on payroll regulations and answer internal inquiries
  • Establish, maintain, and enforce operational procedures and internal controls
  • Monitor payroll performance metrics and drive continuous improvements in collaboration with Product, Engineering, and other internal teams
  • Track KPIs and lead initiatives to enhance payroll efficiency and performance
  • Support recruitment and onboarding for the rapidly scaling payroll operations team
  • Coordinate training, documentation, and communication of payroll practices across departments
  • Maintain strong relationships with vendors and authorities to ensure seamless operations
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to team members

Qualifications

  • 4-5 years of experience in payroll operations, including team leadership,
  • Experience in people management,
  • Fluent Japanese language,
  • Strong understanding of local and multi-country payroll regulations,
  • Proven experience driving process improvement and working with payroll systems
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills
