Job Summary
Responsible for operating and managing the heart-lung machine during cardiac surgeries, ensuring safe cardiopulmonary bypass support for patients. Monitors and maintains patient physiological parameters, manages blood gas and electrolyte balance, and ensures safe initiation and termination of bypass procedures.
Also responsible for operating and troubleshooting perfusion-related equipment, maintaining proper documentation, and ensuring availability of required consumables. Works closely with Surgeons and Anaesthesiologists to ensure optimal patient safety and outcomes during cardiac procedures.
Qualifications & Clinical Competency Requirements
- Holds a recognised Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Perfusion or Cardiovascular Perfusion Technology, or an equivalent qualification in Cardiovascular Healthcare (Perfusion).
- Registered with the Malaysian Perfusionist Society (MAPS) is preferred and/or maintains relevant professional certification such as Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP), where applicable.
- Minimum 3 years experience in a healthcare or clinical setting.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Demonstrated clinical competency in:
- Operation of the heart-lung machine
- Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) management
- ECMO and cell saver systems (where applicable)
- Completion of supervised cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) cases with a validated clinical logbook as evidence of hands-on training and competency.
- Subject to hospital credentialing and privileging requirements prior to independent practice.
