Policy Advocacy Program Manager (Energy)

This position leads the reform and promotion of renewable energy policies in Malaysia to accelerate decarbonization in the semiconductor industry. Through a cross-sectoral energy promotion program, you will collaborate with companies, governments, and investors to support regulatory reform and the adoption of policies relating to the renewable energy.

The role allows for remote work from outside Kuala Lumpur and involves daily collaboration with a supervisor based in Singapore and colleagues at overseas offices, serving as a bridge between Malaysian policymakers, corporations, and industry associations.

Key Responsibilities:

Policy Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Understand and propose improvements to legal frameworks and permitting processes that promote renewable energy adoption
  • Lead meetings and dialogues with policymakers and related organizations, and maintain strong relationships
  • Execute policy proposals and respond promptly to regulatory changes
  • Organize monthly working groups (agenda setting, material preparation, follow-up)
  • Prepare and report on regional policy trends

Corporate Engagement & Renewable Energy Deployment Support

  • Facilitate dialogues and manage programs involving energy consumers, suppliers, and investors
  • Support the use of advanced procurement models and technologies for renewable energy (e.g., PPAs, grid integration)
  • Identify barriers to renewable energy procurement and design initiatives to address them (e.g., workshops)

Ecosystem Building, Partnership Development & Fundraising

  • Build strategic partnerships with key stakeholders in Malaysia
  • Enhance organizational visibility and communication through events and media engagement
  • Support collaboration with emerging technologies (e.g., storage, digital tech, grid innovation)
  • Secure funding through grant applications and sponsorships

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in renewable energy, cleantech, or sustainability
  • Understanding of energy policy, renewable energy procurement systems (e.g., PPA, REC), and decarbonization strategies
  • Fluent in Malay and English (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Strong communication, documentation, analytical, and reporting skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Preferred:

  • Existing network in Malaysia's energy policy landscape
  • Experience in international industry associations, NGOs/NPOs, consulting, or public-private partnership projects
