Job Purpose
The Mechanical Product Design Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, drawing preparation, prototyping, and testing of cryogenic products, components, and systems within CSM's product development division.
This role is involved throughout the full product development lifecycle, including conceptual design, detailed design, prototype development, testing, validation, and preparation for commercial production.
The role requires strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, hands-on product design and drafting capability, and the ability to work in a fast-paced engineering environment involving cryogenic systems, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and low-temperature material behavior.
The engineer will work closely with Product Development Managers, Manufacturing, Procurement, Vendors, and QA/QC teams to ensure products are technically sound, manufacturable, and ready for commercialization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Design & Development
- Design and develop cryogenic components and systems in accordance with engineering requirements and product specifications.
- Participate in full product development lifecycle including:
- Conceptual design
- Detailed engineering design
- Prototype development
- Design improvement and optimization
- Ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and aligned with product performance requirements.
2. 3D CAD Design & Engineering Drawings
- Create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings using Autodesk Inventor (preferred) or equivalent CAD software.
- Prepare:
- Engineering drawings
- Assembly drawings
- BOM (Bill of Materials)
- Design documentation
- Ensure accuracy, standardization, and proper revision control of all engineering drawings.
3. Engineering Analysis & Simulation
- Perform engineering calculations and analysis including:
- Thermodynamics
- Heat transfer
- Fluid mechanics
- Mechanical stress analysis
- Material behavior at low temperatures
- Conduct simulations to validate design assumptions and engineering calculations.
- Provide technical justification and recommendations based on analysis results.
4. Prototype Development & Testing
- Support fabrication and assembly of prototypes together with manufacturing teams.
- Conduct prototype testing and performance validation.
- Develop:
- Test procedures
- SOPs related to testing and validation
- Technical test reports
- Analyze test results and recommend design improvements.
5. Manufacturing & Commercialization Support
- Work closely with Production and Manufacturing Engineering teams to support product sales and communication.
- Assist in transitioning products from prototype stage to commercial production.
- Design jigs, fixtures, and assembly aids to support manufacturing efficiency.
- Ensure product designs are suitable for scalable production.
6. Material Sourcing & Vendor Coordination
- Source materials and components required for prototype and product development.
- Liaise with vendors and suppliers on technical specifications, quotations, and delivery coordination.
- Support logistics coordination for development materials and prototype builds.
- Ensure material suitability for cryogenic and engineering applications.
7. Documentation & Engineering Control
- Maintain engineering documentation including:
- Design revisions
- Engineering change records
- BOM updates
- Technical drawings
- Ensure proper version control and documentation discipline is followed.
8. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with:
- Product Development team and automation team
- Manufacturing
- QA/QC
- Procurement
- Vendors
- Support RMA - troubleshooting and continuous improvement of product designs and processes.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
Experience
- Minimum 2–5 years of working experience in mechanical design, engineering design, or manufacturing engineering.
- Experience in cryogenic systems, Oil & Gas, industrial gas, pressure equipment, or industrial manufacturing is an advantage.
- Exposure to prototype development, testing, or product industrialization is preferred.
Technical Skills
- High proficiency in 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
