The Role:
This is a strategic Product Owner opportunity within a leading Malaysian higher education institution, driving end-to-end product roadmap delivery and agile transformation across a complex technology portfolio. Working closely with cross-functional teams, executive stakeholders, and external vendors, you will own prioritisation, backlog management, and the delivery of high-value product improvements, championing best practices in product management and translating complex business needs into outcomes that deliver real institutional value.
The Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end product lifecycle strategy, from vision and roadmap definition through to release planning, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and delivery of measurable business value at every stage.
- Own and manage the product backlog, setting and maintaining prioritisation in line with business objectives, user needs, and evolving stakeholder expectations across a large, complex institutional environment.
- Drive cross-functional coordination across technical teams, business stakeholders, and external vendors, bridging functional gaps, managing dependencies, and ensuring timely delivery of release milestones.
- Champion the ideation and product improvement cycle, generating, developing, and prioritising features and initiatives, integrating stakeholder feedback into planning, and communicating progress transparently.
- Provide expert strategic advice on product management best practice, policies, and standards, contributing to a high-performing agile delivery culture across a broad technology portfolio.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Postgraduate qualifications in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, with ITIL Foundation certification and extensive experience in product ownership or product management roles.
- Proven experience managing the full product lifecycle from ideation to launch, with a strong ability to translate complex business priorities and user needs into clear, actionable product requirements and roadmaps.
- Strong understanding of Lean and Agile delivery methodologies, including backlog management, sprint planning, dependency coordination, and leading cross-functional technical teams through complex delivery environments.
- Outstanding stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to influence, negotiate, and present complex concepts to diverse audiences including senior leaders and executive sponsors.
- Excellent planning and analytical capability, with experience establishing priorities, allocating resources, and driving outcomes within a large, complex organisational environment, ideally within higher education or the public sector.
