Job Description

Why This Role Exists

Sigma School is building the next-generation learning portal for Southeast Asia: a platform where people learn to code, stay motivated, build community, and get hired. The current online learning experience in the region is dull, transactional, and isolating. Students quit because traditional LMS platforms are boring, confusing, or lack credibility with employers.

We want a product designer who can rethink this from the ground up.

You will create an experience that is clean, addictive to use, socially engaging, and trusted by employers. Your work shapes how thousands of students learn, stay accountable, and showcase their skills.

What You Will Build

You will design the full learning journey: lessons, quizzes, projects, assessments, student dashboards, and public profiles. You will also design engagement systems like streaks, badges, XP, micro-interactions, confetti, challenges, and community features that make learning feel fun and rewarding.

Your job is to make the product something students naturally return to every day.

What You Will Do

Own the end-to-end UX for the learning portal from wireframes to high-fidelity UI

Design clean interfaces that feel lightweight, compact, and information-rich

Turn complex learning workflows into intuitive experiences

Create gamification elements such as streaks, badges, XP, progress trackers, and delightful UI moments

Design social features including learner profiles, leaderboards, comments, challenges, and sharing loops

Design real assessment flows similar to HackerRank: submissions, scoring, feedback, difficulty states

Collaborate deeply with product, engineering, content teams

Run usability tests and iterate based on student behavior and data

Maintain a consistent design system aligned with our branding and component library

Ship fast, improve fast, and think like an owner

What Success Looks Like

Higher lesson completion and course graduation rates

Students return more frequently (higher DAU, better retention)

Students enjoy learning because the product feels rewarding

Social and community features increase sharing and referrals

Employers trust our assessments and use them to hire talent

The learning portal looks and feels like a modern, world-class product

What You Should Bring

2+ years in product/UI/UX design with real shipped products

A portfolio showing strong interaction design, not just landing pages

Ability to simplify complex workflows

Understanding of behavior design, motivation, habit loops, or gamification

Experience designing social/community features is a plus

Experience with edtech or assessment products is a strong advantage

Strong Figma skills

Clear communication and ability to collaborate with engineers

High ownership, fast execution, and willingness to iterate

Who Thrives Here

People who think in systems, not just screens. People who take pride in shipping work that users love. People who enjoy education, learning, and building tools that change real lives. People who can balance aesthetics, speed, and usability without needing micromanagement.
