Job Description

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Reports To: IT Operations Manager

Domain: Healthcare (Large Group Hospital)

Contract Duration: 2 Years (Extendable)

Salary: 10,00012,000 MYR per month

Nationality: Open (Local candidates are preferred)

Joining: 1 month notice or earlier

Job Purpose

The Production Database Administrator (DBA) ensures the performance, integrity, and security of databases. The role involves planning, development, troubleshooting, and upgrading databases to meet organizational needs.

Key qualities for success in this role include:

  • Ensuring data consistency across the database.
  • Clearly defining and organizing data.
  • Supporting 24/7 data accessibility for users.
  • Establishing data security and recovery protocols to ensure data retrieval during emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

Installation, Configuration, Upgrade, and Migration:

  • Install and configure database software to meet deployment needs.
  • Perform software upgrades and patches as required.
  • Migrate data from legacy servers to new systems.
  • Collaborate with the development team to test and document migration procedures.

Database Maintenance:

  • Assist with initial installation and define configuration options.
  • Perform ongoing maintenance, including modifying or rebuilding database objects as needed.
  • Develop and document procedures for database migrations and upgrades.

Backup and Recovery:

  • Develop, implement, and periodically test backup and recovery plans.
  • Ensure backups are performed regularly and include all necessary files for restoration.
  • Quickly recover databases during failures without losing committed transactions.
  • Maintain data synchronization between production databases and disaster recovery systems.

Database Security:

  • Manage authentication, authorization, and auditing for secure data access.
  • Implement best practices for database security models to control access and track usage.

Storage and Capacity Planning:

  • Monitor disk storage and analyze growth trends to advise management on capacity planning.
  • Ensure databases have adequate storage for future growth and performance.

Performance Monitoring and Tuning:

  • Regularly monitor database performance to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
  • Optimize hardware, operating systems, indexing, and query performance.
  • Identify and address inefficient queries in collaboration with the development team.
  • Manage memory usage and physical resources to maintain optimal performance.

Troubleshooting:

  • Quickly identify and resolve database issues without compromising data integrity.
  • Take corrective actions to minimize disruptions and ensure smooth database operations.

High Availability:

  • Manage databases to support 24/7 availability, critical for hospital operations.
  • Implement techniques such as clustering, replication, and online backups to reduce downtime.
  • Plan maintenance windows for essential offline operations.

ETL (Data Extraction, Transformation, and Loading):

  • Extract and compile data for reporting purposes.
  • Load and transform master data from external files to prepare production databases.

Requirements and Expectations

  • Experience in database installation, configuration, and upgrades.
  • Strong understanding of backup and recovery protocols and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Expertise in database security, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with high-availability configurations, including clustering and replication.
  • Familiarity with ETL processes and tools for data extraction and transformation.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex database issues in a 24/7 operational environment.
