Production Engineering Engineer (Japanese speaker)

Job Description

Responsible for the New Product Introduction (NPI) process, driving design and development projects from the initial concept stage through to final product launch and mass production.

Manage key activities throughout the new product development process, including defining product requirements, product testing, moulding, assembly, verification and validation testing, usability evaluation, risk management, and packaging development.

Develop and validate test methods used for product testing, ensuring compliance with customer requirements and industry standards and regulations.

Conduct product research, testing, and analysis to support product design and development activities.

Coordinate product development documentation with Japan headquarters and relevant departments to ensure quality requirements and deliverables are achieved.

Liaise and coordinate with suppliers and related departments regarding quality issues for assigned projects.

Manage product sample preparation and pre-production activities in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Improve existing equipment based on technical requirements and perform product functional testing.

Work closely with manufacturing, sales, and purchasing teams to define product specifications, performance criteria, and development requirements.

Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost analysis to support optimal design decisions.

Collaborate with suppliers and vendors for sourcing components, materials, and services required for product development and production.

Support manufacturing operations through technical assistance, troubleshooting, and design improvements.

Participate in design reviews, project meetings, and cross-functional discussions to ensure project objectives are achieved.

Position Overview & Work Breakdown

The main responsibilities of this position are New Product Development (NPI: New Product Introduction) and R&D activities.

The role mainly focuses on prototype development and product development activities.

Approximately 80% of the role involves new product development-related activities, including prototype development, product evaluation, testing, validation, and preparation for mass production.

Approximately 20% of the role involves process improvement, equipment improvement, and technical support, including improving existing equipment, addressing technical issues during manufacturing processes, conducting product functional tests, and providing technical support to the production floor.

This position focuses more on new product development rather than existing product improvement, as there are more new product development projects this year.

The work ratio is approximately 70% shop floor activities and 30% office-based work.

Communication with Customers & Japan Headquarters

Products are mainly shipped to Japan, and communication is primarily with the Japan headquarters team.

Communication with the Japan headquarters is mainly conducted via email, with almost daily interaction.

Business Travel

Business travel may be required depending on business needs.

Main destinations are Japan and China.

The frequency is expected to be approximately once a year.

MUST TO HAVE:

-Possess Japanese language proficiency equivalent to JLPT N3 or above.

-Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related fields.
