The Project Control Engineer will drive cost control, forecasting, reporting, and change management to ensure projects are delivered on budget and on value. This role is a key partner in shaping project success by providing critical cost insights and assurance to support funding decisions, portfolio prioritisation, and proactive value protection for Gentari.

Responsibilities

Cost Planning & Budget Management

  • Develop and maintain the overall project budget, including CAPEX estimates, contingency, and escalation provisions;
  • Establish Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS) aligned with the project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS);
  • Review and validate contractor and consultant cost estimates and proposals;
  • Ensure alignment of cost plans with project scope, schedule, investment approval, and risk assessment outputs (e.g., CSRA).

Cost Control & Monitoring

  • Lead the monthly cost control cycle, including budget vs. actual tracking, commitments and accruals monitoring, and forecasting (Estimate at Completion – EAC);
  • Monitor cost performance and identify variances, risks, and opportunities;
  • Maintain cost control systems and ensure data integrity (e.g., SAP, EcoSys, or equivalent platforms).

Forecasting & Reporting

  • Prepare and present monthly cost reports, management dashboards and cash flow forecasts;
  • Provide clear insights to senior management on cost trends, forecast deviations, and funding requirements;
  • Support internal financial reporting and governance requirements.

Change & Claims Management

  • Lead the evaluation of variation Orders (VOs), claims, and commercial disputes;
  • Ensure all changes are properly justified, commercially evaluated, and approved in accordance with governance procedures;
  • Maintain a change register and track impacts on budget and contingency.

Contract & Commercial Oversight

  • Monitor contractor commitments, expenditures, and cost performance;
  • Provide commercial input on procurement strategies and contract terms;
  • Work closely with Contracts and Procurement teams on tender evaluations, cost benchmarking, and commercial negotiations.

Risk & Contingency Management

  • Identify cost risks and uncertainties across the project lifecycle;
  • Support risk management processes and quantify financial exposure;
  • Manage contingency utilisation, drawdown, and justification.

Stakeholder & Functional Collaboration

  • Act as the primary cost control interface between project teams, finance, and contractors and consultants;
  • Provide cost-related guidance and advisory support to project managers;
  • Present cost performance, forecasts, and key risks to senior management and investment committees.

Process, Systems & Governance

  • Establish and implement cost control procedures, tools, and reporting frameworks;
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, governance requirements, and audit standards;
  • Drive standardisation in cost management practices across projects;
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives in cost control systems, processes, and reporting quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Quantity Surveying, Finance, or related discipline;
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in cost control, preferably in renewable energy, oil & gas, or infrastructure projects;
  • Proven experience managing cost for large-scale projects (FEED, EPC, or similar);
  • Strong knowledge of cost control systems (e.g., SAP, EcoSys);
  • Experience in integrated project controls (cost, schedule, risk) is an advantage.
