Project Director (Data Center)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic guidance and hands-on leadership across all phases of industrial automation scope of the Data centre Project
  • Lead end-to-end DC/BMS project lifecycle, from initiation to completion, ensuring timely and budget-compliant execution.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive project plans, including schedules, budgets, resource allocation, and risk mitigation strategies tailored to complex automation solutions.
  • Manage the triple constraintsscope, schedule, and costwhile maintaining a primary focus on quality and building strong customer relationships
  • Manage scope creep, change management, anticipate risk and maintain up to date risk register, plan and execute risk mitigation plans
  • Host monthly governance call with the senior management and provide a high-level of visibility on the project KPI's including resource plan, schedule progress, cost to complete, risk etc
  • Facilitate collaboration among geographically dispersed, cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and executive leadership to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Oversee contract negotiations, vendor agreements, and procurement processes.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of approximately 50 engineers and managers, fostering a high-performance, innovative, and inclusive culture.
  • Will be the single point of responsibility and the face of the company to the customer.
  • Regular travel throughout the Asia-Pacific region to coordinate with various teams including vendors, manufacturers, customer design teams, customer sub-vendors and construction teams
  • Spend appreciable time with customer in Malaysia to foster trusted relationships.
  • Ensure strict adherence to industry standards, and safety regulations across all project activities, including compliance to relevant Malaysian standards
  • Ensure highest level of Health & Safety standards are followed particularly in construction and commissioning environment
  • Supervise quality assurance processes, compliance measures, and reporting requirements specific to automation projects in data centre
  • Manage project documentation requirements
  • Champion continuous improvement and the adoption of emerging automation trends relevant to large, complex project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years experience in project management, in which at least 5 years serving as Project Director on large and complex projects in sectors such as Oil & Gas, Aerospace, Discrete Manufacturing, Data Centres, or related industries.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, industrial automation, or a closely related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • Deep knowledge of automation systems, project management methodologies, and industry best practices.
  • Professional project management certification required (PMP, PRINCE2, Scrum Master or equivalent).
  • Practice leader of PMI/Prince2/ Scrum project management principles
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing geographically dispersed teams of around 50+ engineers and managers.
  • Strong hand-on knowledge in manging the technology project involving PLCs, SCADA, Networking devices, IiOT devices, Building Information Modelling (BIM -3D designs) and cybersecurity
  • Hands-on knowledge of the complete project life cycle from sales to engineering transfer, basic design, detailed design, manufacture, testing (FAT), Site Installation, construction, commissioning and closeout/handover to customer
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and organizational skills, with proven capability to manage multiple priorities in challenging, technical environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Professional level proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of Malay is a plus but not mandatory.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience delivering successful automation projects in data centre environments and other high-technology sectors.
  • Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems in data centre environments.
  • Experience with data centre power distribution (UPS, generators), cooling systems (CRAC units, chillers), and fire suppression systems.IT delivery & commissioning experience
  • Financial acumen and a solid track record of managing substantial project budgets.
  • Adaptability and innovative thinking in response to evolving technologies and market demands.
  • Experience in managing large projects in Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia
