PROJECT ENGINEER
A Project Engineer at Sarens plays a crucial role in developing technical solutions for heavy lifting and engineered transport projects, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant execution. The position involves engineering design, technical analysis, onsite coordination, and collaboration with crossfunctional teams. You will work closely with project managers, CAD designers, riggers, crane operators, SHEQ coordinators, and other engineering specialists to deliver worldclass lifting solutions for industrial, construction, marine, and energy markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Engineering & Design
- Interpret, analyze, and calculate from technical drawings, plans, and client specifications.
- Develop tailormade heavy lifting and transport solutions using Sarens fleet of cranes, SPMTs, pontoons, jackup systems, and support structures.
- Produce engineering documentation: lifting plans, calculations, sketches, configurations, method statements, and technical reports.
- Project Coordination
- Act as the technical Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for assigned projects.
- Coordinate internally with stakeholders to check feasibility, clarify requirements, and ensure technical accuracy.
- Consult equipment documentation to assign correct cranes, rigging, and transport equipment once the technical solution is approved.
- OnSite Involvement
- Conduct site inspections to gather data, validate conditions, and support execution.
- Attend technical meetings and participate in onsite work as required.
- Provide technical support during execution to ensure safe and correct implementation of lifting and transport plans.
- Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all engineered solutions comply with Sarens SHEQ standards and regulatory requirements.
- Perform risk assessments, apply safety procedures, and uphold industry best practices during planning and execution
- Continuous Improvement & Knowledge Sharing
- Collaborate with other engineers to enhance the quality, efficiency, and consistency of deliverables.
- Share knowledge, participate in trainings, and maintain updated technical competencies.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education
Master's or Bachelor's degree in Industrial/Civil/Mechanical/Electromechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or equivalent (experience may also be considered).
Technical Competencies
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret engineering drawings.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, and MS Excel.
- Understanding of cranes, rigging, heavy lifting equipment, and transport systems.
Experience
Preferably 15+ years in a technical engineering/project environment, ideally in heavy lifting, construction, rigging, offshore/marine, or engineered transport.
Soft Skills
- Strong communication skills (verbal & written).
- Team player with flexible, proactive, and problemsolving mindset.
- Ability to work independently and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel or work onsite as required.
