About the job
Public Relations & Communications Specialist
Solace Wellbeing Group | Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia | Full-time, on-site
About Solace
Solace Wellbeing Group is one of Southeast Asia's most established mental health, rehabilitation, and wellbeing organisations, with operations across Malaysia, the Middle East, and beyond.
The Role
In this field, reputation is not a marketing asset. It is the reason a frightened family trusts us with someone they love. Your job is to build and protect that reputation everywhere we cannot simply pay for the space.
We have brought performance marketing in-house. You will own the other half: the media, the corporate narrative across our brands, the credibility of our clinicians, our relationships with regulators and partners, and our response when something goes wrong.
There is no existing press office, media list, or crisis protocol. You will build them.
What you will do
- Build and own our relationships with Malaysian media across English, Bahasa Malaysia, and Chinese-language outlets
- Develop a running story pipeline, rather than waiting for announcements, and place releases, bylines, and expert commentary
- Act as the gatekeeper between journalists and our clinical staff
- Maintain a coherent group narrative across multiple brands and produce our corporate materials
- Position our clinicians and leadership as credible public voices through speaking, panels, and published contributions
- Plan and run announcement campaigns for new facilities, services, and international partnerships
- Build relationships with the Ministry of Health, AADK, professional associations, insurers, corporate partners, and referring clinicians
- Build our crisis communications protocol and handle reputational issues as they arise
- Ensure every piece of published material meets Malaysian healthcare advertising requirements and our patient confidentiality obligations
What we are looking for
- Communications experience in mental healthcare, addiction treatment, and/or rehabilitation. Private psychiatric or psychological services, behavioural health, and NGO work in mental health and recovery all count. This is what we weigh most heavily, though we will read strong applications without it
- At least 3 years in public relations or corporate communications, agency or in-house
- Real working relationships with Malaysian journalists and editors, not a purchased media list
- Placements you personally secured, and the pitch behind them
- Full working fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia
- Excellent writing ability
- Sound judgement under pressure, and the confidence to tell senior people when something should not be said
- An understanding of where the line sits between promoting a service and exploiting a patient's story
Advantageous, not essential
- Mandarin or Cantonese language ability
- Experience in another regulated sector, such as general healthcare, pharmaceutical, or financial services
- Experience handling a live reputational issue
- Working knowledge of how earned media and search visibility reinforce each other
One thing to be clear about
Patient confidentiality outranks every story. No patient is ever a case study without documented, informed consent, and even then we may still say no. You will sometimes have an excellent story you cannot tell. If that is a dealbreaker, this is not the role.
