Job Description
- Lead and develop a senior R&D organisation, building strong technical capability, performance culture, and succession pipelines
- Drive a robust innovation pipeline across new products, reformulations, and technology platforms aligned with business and market needs
- Lead formulation development and raw material strategies, balancing performance, cost, risk, and complexity
- Champion sustainability-led innovation, including material optimisation, regulatory readiness, and lifecycle improvement
- Establish disciplined project governance, prioritisation, and delivery across R&D initiatives
- Own end-to-end product quality, technical risk management, and continuous improvement
- Partner closely with manufacturing, supply chain, procurement, quality, and commercial teams
- Collaborate with global R&D networks, external suppliers, and technology partners
- Ensure alignment with global innovation strategy, technology roadmaps, and sustainability ambitions
The Successful Applicant
A Successful R&D Director Should Possess
- Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related technical field
- 15+ years of progressive R&D experience within specialty chemicals, formulated products, or performance materials
- Proven leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary technical teams in a multinational environment
- Strong background in formulation science, materials selection, and raw material strategy
- Experience working closely with manufacturing, operations, and commercial teams
- Solid understanding of quality systems, regulatory compliance, and product stewardship
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Influential leader with strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Resilient, hands-on leader comfortable operating in complex environments
