Regional HR Manager — Southeast Asia
About the Role
Our client, a leading international player in chemicals distribution is seeking a Regional HR Manager to lead the full spectrum of human resources across its Southeast Asia operations. Reporting to global leadership, this is a hands-on generalist role combining strategic HR partnering with operational delivery across multiple country entities.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as HR business partner to regional and country leadership, advising on organizational design, workforce planning, and people strategy
- Manage the full employee lifecycle across SEA entities: recruitment, onboarding, performance management, development, and offboarding
- Lead talent acquisition for key positions, working with hiring managers and external partners to build strong pipelines
- Drive compensation and benefits reviews, ensuring regional competitiveness and internal equity; support annual salary review and bonus cycles
- Ensure HR compliance with local labour laws and statutory requirements across Malaysia and other SEA markets, working with local advisors where needed
- Manage employee relations matters, including grievances, disciplinary processes, and disputes, with sound judgement and discretion
- Develop and harmonise HR policies, processes, and systems across the region
- Support learning and development initiatives and succession planning for critical roles
- Champion employee engagement, culture, and retention initiatives across a multicultural workforce
- Provide accurate HR reporting and analytics to regional and headquarters stakeholders
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field
- 8–12 years of progressive HR generalist experience, with at least 3 years in a regional or multi-country capacity within SEA
- Strong working knowledge of Malaysian employment law; familiarity with other SEA markets (e.g. Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam) highly advantageous
- Proven ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a lean regional structure
- Strong stakeholder management skills, comfortable partnering with senior leadership and headquarters functions
- Excellent communication skills in English; additional regional languages an advantage
- Willingness to travel within the region as required
