Your role

The Area Manager is a strategic and dynamic leader responsible for maximizing the business results, operational excellence, and strategic growth of all retail locations within a designated geographical area in Malaysia.

This pivotal role requires a leader with deep Retail Malaysia acumen who can drive sales and results while guaranteeing the highest standards of quality and customer service. The Area Manager is tasked with elevating Store Leaders into high-impact leaders, fostering a culture of expertise, superior service delivery, and strict adherence to all local regulatory requirements. They serve as the critical conduit between field team strategy and flawless execution at the store level.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Business Development

  • Lead the execution of Area Strategic Projects / Plans focused on maximizing performance, market penetration, and high-value optical servicing.
  • Translate sales objectives into localized store-specific targets (e.g., conversion rate, second pair sales), holding Store Managers accountable for their consistent achievement.

Operational Excellence

  • Elevate operational standards across the area, ensuring seamless workflow from booking to dispensing to guarantee maximum efficiency and optimal patient flow.
  • Lead rigorous enforcement of all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and company policies.
  • Take full ownership of the performance and driving cost-efficiencies to maximize area profitability.
  • Strategically manage the end-to-end process for new store launches and closures, ensuring successful setup, training, and operational readiness (including procurement of necessary clinical equipment).
  • Ensure unwavering compliance with all local retail and regulatory optical/clinical legislation in Malaysia, proactively auditing practices and providing recommendations for best-in-class procedural enhancements.
  • Serve as the ultimate point of escalation for complex operational challenges, providing decisive and effective resolutions.

Team Leadership & People Management

  • Act as a true coach and mentor to Store Leaders, fostering a culture of mutual accountability and continuous high-performance that consistently strives to exceed established KPIs and service metrics.
  • Drive the company talent strategy, leading the strategic development of high-potential Store Managers and ensuring all teams possess current and expert product knowledge.
  • Conducting structured performance reviews, providing high-impact feedback, and defining clear succession pathways for key area talent.
  • Function as the critical communication conduit, ensuring seamless and clear two-way communication to effectively translate corporate strategy into store-level action plans and relay field insights back to the Business Head
  • Champion a high-engagement culture by utilizing effective people management practices and establishing clear, actionable succession plans to build a sustainable pipeline of future leaders.

Customer Experience

  • Strategically engage with ECPs and key external stakeholders to strengthen customer experience.
  • Expertly manage and resolve all high-level patient escalations and service recovery situations.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Analyze data across all key retail metrics (e.g., Sales performances, conversion rate, lab rejects) to diagnose performance gaps and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Present strategic, data-backed performance reviews to business head, clearly outlining area results, anticipating challenges, and providing comprehensive action plans for sustained growth.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop teams.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong business acumen and commercial awareness.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Ability to travel frequently within the assigned area in Malaysia.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience in an Area Manager, District Manager, or similar multi-stores management role, preferably within retail industry, preferably in the Optical industry.
  • Demonstrated track record of achieving sales targets and driving business growth.
