Job Description

Your new role

  • Hands-on tax expert for the Asia region especially focused on HK, SG, MY and JP with exposure to both in-house accounting processes and strategic tax work.
  • Opportunity to become a true business partner in making commercial/ tax decisions
  • Work closely with the HQ Group Tax team based in the UK, and is the main contact person for the UK Group for all tax-related matters.
  • Part of a vibrant dynamic team that is at the forefront of driving change to ensure continuous improvement.
  • The role is based in the Sunway office and reports to the Asia FD.
  • There will be opportunities to build a small team in the future, and we will therefore have a people manager exposure aspect.

Taxation

  • Group and statutory accounting tax reporting (including budgeting and forecasting)
  • Supporting the completion of the indirect tax returns (including VAT / GST/ SST) as well as direct tax returns
  • Managing tax payments
  • Managing CbCR notification
  • Production of tax calculations and disclosures for the group accounts, interim statements
  • Correspondence with tax offices as well as managing tax audits
  • Prepare tax calculations and return submissions when required
  • Ad hoc employment tax support
  • Ad hoc tax projects
  • Manage transfer pricing risk

Financial transaction management

  • Responsible for managing the tax related balance sheet reconciliation and overseeing the related transactional workflows to ensure accuracy
  • Reconciliation between tax payment and general financial ledger
  • Exposure to financial month-end process and internal/ external reporting

Business Partnering

  • Providing business advice in compliance with relevant tax laws
  • Assist in ad hoc tax related projects, local and Group

Continuous Improvement:

  • Recommending process enhancements and continuous improvement to the team
  • Responsibility in ensuring the adequacy of internal controls within the finance team and resolving control deficiencies independently.

What you'll need to succeed

  • At least 3 to 6 years of relevant working experience
  • Proven track record in corporate tax gained from working in either a professional service firm or a similar in-house tax role.
  • You will also be able to prioritise workflow and manage your own deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff members, internal and external contacts; with strong English language skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with all levels of management
  • Excellent collaboration, organisational, time management, customer service and problem-solving skills and the ability to work accurately and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a team environment, focused on achieving results
  • Proactive and persistence in driving change to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Familiar with Great Plains, Power BI, Excel
  • Worked for sizeable or multinational companies

CERTIFICATE QUALIFICATIONS:

Ideally, have a suitable accountancy or tax-related certificate.

  • Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
  • Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA)
  • Certified Public Accountant, tax specialisation
