The Wave Clinic is a specialist residential and outpatient treatment centre for adolescents and young adults experiencing complex mental health presentations, including eating disorders, trauma, substance use, personality vulnerability, and co-occurring conditions. Our model integrates trauma-focussed care, DBT, phased treatment (Stabilisation, Reprocessing, Reintegration), experiential therapies, and multidisciplinary collaboration within a safe and relational residential setting.
Role Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, experienced Dietitian with specialist expertise in Eating Disorders to join our multidisciplinary team on a part-time remote basis. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting nutritional rehabilitation, stabilisation, and recovery for young people with complex presentations including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, ARFID, binge eating disorder, disordered eating, and co-occurring trauma and emotional dysregulation. This role involves clinical assessment, meal plan development, psychoeducation, family collaboration, and close MDT coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments (including ED-specific risk assessment).
- Develop individualised, phase-appropriate meal plans aligned with medical and therapeutic goals.
- Support nutritional stabilisation in early treatment (including refeeding considerations and risk management in collaboration with medical team).
- Provide remote 1:1 nutrition sessions with residents.
- Support reduction of compensatory behaviours (purging, restriction, exercise misuse) through structured nutritional interventions.
- Monitor progress and adjust plans based on psychological and medical presentation.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
- Attend weekly MDT meetings (remote).
- Work closely with psychiatrists, nurses, therapists, and support staff.
- Contribute to phase-based treatment planning (Stabilisation Reprocessing Reintegration).
- Provide guidance to residential staff around meal support strategies and food exposure work.
- Support risk protocols related to ED behaviours (e.g., bathroom supervision, purging risk, fluid manipulation).
Family & Systems Work
- Provide parent psychoeducation sessions when & if required.
- Support families in understanding refeeding, weight restoration, and food-related anxiety.
- Contribute to discharge planning and transition meal planning.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with regulatory and clinic standards.
- Contribute to treatment reports and discharge summaries.
- Provide clear written meal guidance for on-site team implementation if needed.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Registered / Licensed Dietitian (recognised professional body).
- Specialist training and experience in Eating Disorder treatment.
- Minimum 35 years clinical experience (preferably with adolescents/young adults).
- Experience working within multidisciplinary mental health settings.
Strong understanding of:
- Refeeding syndrome and medical risk
- Trauma-informed nutritional care
- ARFID presentations
- Binge-purge cycles
- Emotional regulation and food
- Substance use and nutrition interplay
Desirable Experience
- Experience in residential or inpatient settings.
- Training in DBT-informed or trauma-focused models.
Experience working with co-occurring:
- Borderline personality traits
- PTSD / complex trauma
- ADHD
- Substance use disorders
- Experience providing virtual/telehealth consultations.
