We are seeking a mid-level professional to support our growing work in Malaysia's industrial decarbonisation space. The successful candidate will contribute to research, analysis, and stakeholder engagement across Transition Asia's Malaysia projects.
This position offers an opportunity to contribute to applied technology, policy and market research shaping Malaysia's industrial transition.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct applied policy and market research, synthesizing quantitative and qualitative results into clear, actionable insights for policymakers, investors, and industry.
- Support the translation of techno-economic modelling outcomes into policy and investment recommendations relevant to Malaysia's industrial decarbonisation strategy.
- Assist in the design and implementation of stakeholder engagement activities, including interviews, workshops, and roundtables with government, industry, and civil society.
- Contribute to hydrogen and DRI cost modelling, analysing implications for Malaysia's steel sector competitiveness and transition pathways.
- Monitor and interpret market and policy developments to inform project analysis and engagement strategies.
- Liaise and coordinate with local partners, government agencies, industry representatives, and research institutions to ensure effective collaboration and knowledge exchange.
- Provide on-the-ground coordination and logistical support for project activities and stakeholder events in Malaysia.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in industrial decarbonisation, energy transition, or sustainability (experience with the steel or heavy industry sectors is an advantage).
- Familiarity with Malaysia's energy and industrial policy landscape.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia is an advantage.
- Strong analytical skills, with experience in data analysis, techno-economic modelling, or policy research.
- Experience engaging with government, industry, and CSOs.
- Self-starter, detail-oriented, and able to work independently in a small, high-performing team.
Location
- This is a remote position; candidates must be Malaysia-based and able to engage with stakeholders on the ground.
