JOB Description of Safety Specialist
Compliance & Standards
Ensure LPs (Lease Provider) and GCs (General Contractor) comply with Microsoft Safety Policy and national safety standards.
Conduct EHS inspections to verify compliance with Microsoft standards and local regulations.
Assess LP (Lease Provider) and GC (General Contractor) EHS resource competency levels.
Evaluate Safety Management System (SMS) effectiveness, including:
Inspection programs
Permit-to-Work (PTW) compliance
Method Statement & Risk Assessment (MRSA) adequacy
Logistics planning
Training effectiveness
Subcontractor management processes
Validate audit review quality and closure of findings
Construction Safety Management
Enhance and improve existing safety management procedures through visible on-site presence and active participation in day-to-day Health & Safety activities.
Work collaboratively and positively support the appointed General Contractor (GC) or Lease Provider (LP).
Data & Reporting
Consolidate and upload Project EHS data and documentation into Microsoft systems for compliance reporting
Culture Leadership
Influence GC and LP teams to create a positive hazard reporting culture and encourage Stop Work Authority.
Act as a trusted advisor to promote proactive safety leadership and continuous improvement.
Active Engagement
Participate in all aspects of daily Health & Safety management engagement, including:
Management and personnel meetings
Training workshops
Daily Activity Briefings
Hazard Risk Assessment (HRA) look ahead for planned works
Last Planner reviews (2-, 4-, and 6-week cycles)
Management safety reviews and analysis
Incident Management
Support incident notifications, investigations, timely reporting, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and lessons learned for continuous improvement.
Collaborate with LPs and GCs in implementation of emergency response plans.
Performance Monitoring
Monitor leading indicators (observations, near-miss reports, training completion, pre-task planning).
Track lagging indicators (recordable injury rates, lost-time incidents, severity trends).
Use data insights to recommend and implement corrective actions.
Safety Advisor Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor's degree in any Engineering with additional qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or NEBOSH IGC or similar certification
A minimum 12 years of Proven experience in a safety advisory role within a similar industry
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and Malaysian safety standards
Excellent communication and training skills
Familiarity with safety management systems and software
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
