This is not a traditional SCADA/HMI configuration role. We are looking for engineers who enjoy building software, improving user experience, automating engineering workflows, and challenging conventional approaches to industrial automation. You will help develop next-generation SCADA/HMI solutions by combining software engineering, automation, and human-centred design to create systems that are both efficient to engineer and intuitive to operate.
Responsibilities
1. SCADA & HMI Development
- Design and develop intuitive SCADA/HMI applications for utilities and industrial automation systems.
- Create clear, operator-friendly HMI layouts, navigation flows and visualization concepts.
- Build reusable HMI templates, graphic libraries and software components to improve engineering efficiency.
2. Software Development & Automation
- Continuously improve existing software architecture and engineering processes.
- Develop software tools, scripts and utilities to automate repetitive engineering tasks.
- Improve engineering workflows by reducing manual configuration effort through automation.
- Develop reusable engineering frameworks for project deployment.
- Explore integration of AI and modern software technologies into engineering processes.
- Document and standardise best engineering practices.
3. User Experience (UX)
- Study operator workflows and continuously improve HMI usability.
- Design interfaces that prioritise clarity, speed of operation and situational awareness.
- Challenge traditional HMI design practices and propose better user experiences.
- Prototype and evaluate new interface concepts before implementation.
4. Project Delivery
- Support project implementation from Design → Development → Internal Testing → FAT → SAT.
- Work closely with Design, Production and Site teams to ensure software matches actual field implementation.
- Support troubleshooting, commissioning and software improvements during project execution.
- Maintain proper version control and technical documentation.
Requirement
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent.
- Passion for creating software and solving engineering problems.
- Strong logical thinking and analytical skills.
- Interested in automation, software development and industrial systems.
- Able to understand engineering drawings and translate them into software solutions.
- Self-motivated and willing to learn new technologies.
- Own transport and willing to travel when required.
Advantage
- Experience with HMI/SCADA platforms (any): Zenon/ WinCC / MicroSCADA / Citect / AVEVA / Ignition / Wonderware / etc.
- Basic networking knowledge (IP addressing, switches, VLAN concepts) and comms basics
- Familiarity with protocols/standards (e.g., IEC 61850, Modbus, IEC-104, DNP3)
- Basic scripting for automation (reporting, tag import/export)
