About the role:

SCCM/Intune Administrator

Job Descriptions: Desktop Patching SCCM/Intune Administrator

Role Summary

  • The Desktop Patching Administrator (SCCM/Intune) is responsible for endâ€`toâ€`end patch lifecycle management for Windows and macOS devices. The role ensures timely deployment of security updates, compliance to patch baselines, automation of patch processes, and overall endpoint health using SCCM/MECM and Intune.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patch Management
  • Plan, test, approve, and deploy monthly OS and application patches via SCCM and Intune.
  • Create deployment rings, pilot groups, and phased rollouts to minimize risk.
  • Monitor patch compliance, remediation status, and nonâ€`compliant devices.
  • Manage thirdâ€`party patching via SCCM catalogs or Intune Win32 app packaging.
  • SCCM/MECM Administration
  • Configure software update points, ADRs, distribution points, and deployment packages.
  • Manage client health, collections, task sequences, and device policies.
  • Troubleshoot SCCM infrastructure, sync issues, WSUS errors, and failed deployments.
  • Intune Patch & Device Management
  • Configure Windows Update for Business (WUfB), update rings, and feature update policies.
  • Manage quality updates, feature rollouts, and compliance policies in Intune.
  • Support Autopatch, coâ€`management, and cloudâ€`based patch automation.
  • Testing & Validation
  • Perform preâ€`deployment testing in QA/UAT environments.
  • Validate application compatibility and regression during patch cycles.
  • Ensure rollback strategies and risk mitigation plans are in place.
  • Security & Compliance
  • Align patching schedules with security requirements and vulnerability priorities (CVEs).
  • Work with Security teams on zeroâ€`day patches, emergency deployments, and escalation handling.
  • Maintain auditâ€`ready documentation, patch calendars, and compliance reports.
  • Monitoring & Reporting
  • Generate patch compliance dashboards using SCCM, Intune, SQL, or Power BI.
  • Track SLA adherence, performance metrics, and monthly patch summaries.
  • Collaboration
  • Coordinate with Service Desk, Network, Cloud, and Security teams.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for patching failures and device health issues.
  • Document SOPs, runbooks, and patch guidelines.

Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills:

  • SCCM/MECM, Intune, WSUS, WUfB, PowerShell scripting.
  • Knowledge of Windows OS, patching cycles, CVE analysis, and endpoint security.
  • Familiarity with SQL reporting, logs, clientâ€`side troubleshooting.
  • Experience:
  • 8 years in endpoint patching, SCCM/Intune administration, or device engineering.
