Job Description

The School Nurse is responsible for providing healthcare support to students and staff, ensuring a safe and healthy school environment. The role includes delivering first aid, managing medical needs, maintaining accurate health records, and supporting students with chronic conditions.

The School Nurse also works closely with staff and parents to promote student well-being, ensure compliance with health regulations, and support a safe and conducive learning environment.

Responsibilities:

Nursing Duties

  • Provide triage and nursing care for the school.
  • Perform vital signs to the students if required and record in the daily student visit report.
  • Perform basic dressing and wound management to the students presenting with injuries or wounds.
  • Provide First Aid, emergency care and treatment as required on a call out basis.
  • Provide sport specific First Aid on site as required, and off site First Aid cover.
  • Provide First Aid support for School events or sports fixtures as and when required.

Medical Record Management

  • Maintain accurate and confidential logs of student visits and treatment.
  • Communicate pertinent information directly to the line manager and/or school principals.
  • Communicate with parents through discussion with line manager and/or school principals.
  • Adhering to mandated, ethical and confidential guidelines regarding safe and accurate maintenance of all medical records and all communication methods.

Stock Management

  • Perform daily stock count of the items and medications placed in Sick Bay.
  • Maintenance of student's emergency medication stored in the health centers.
  • Administering medications under protocol with the advice or supervision of the Line Manager.
  • Maintain the stock in the treatment room and be responsible for the hygiene and tidiness of the area.
  • Maintenance and stocking of first aid kits on campus, and for sports programs, including approved field trips.
  • Follow procedures for the safe disposal of clinical waste.

General

  • Adhere to Malaysian Ministry of Health's guidelines regarding infection control and management of infectious diseases.
  • Report any incidents or accidents to the Line Manager prior to making any decisions.
  • To assist in other areas required by the School when necessary.
  • Any other ad-hoc duties as assigned by the Line Manager.

Requirements:

  • Minimum a Degree in Nursing or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 4 years working experience in a hospital setting. Prior experience in a school setting would be an added advantage.
  • Possess a valid nursing registration with the National Nursing Board of Malaysia.
  • Computer literate with good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia.
