Hematogenix® is looking for an energic and detail-oriented individual to join its Molecular Team. The Scientist will support the delivery of patient care by performing and providing technical interpretation of laboratory testing which is utilized in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
Responsibilities and Job Duties
As the Scientist, you will need to:
• Performs all laboratory testing, including the pre-analytical phase in accordance with standard operating procedures and accreditation guidelines to support the delivery of patient care.
a. Performing moderate and highly complex to provide diagnostic information for the physician.
b. Interpreting technical laboratory tests to aid in the proper diagnosis and treatment.
c. Utilizing the laboratory information system appropriately to enter, evaluate and verifying patient information and/or results.
d. Performing laboratory testing in accordance with established laboratory procedures to guarantee accurate laboratory results.
• Conducts established quality control procedures on analytical tests, equipment, reagents, media, and products; evaluate the results of quality control and implements corrective action according to established protocols to ensure the accuracy and quality of patient testing.
a. Performing assigned quality control activities to ensure the performance of laboratory tests.
b. Verifying the performance of media or reagents in accordance with performance guidelines to assure the accuracy of patent results.
c. Recognizing and implementing corrective action on unacceptable quality control results which would directly affect the quality and management of patient care.
d. Performing routine maintenance functions to ensure the proper operation of the laboratory.
• Demonstrates quality customer service through positive interaction which meets the needs of co-workers, clients and vendors.
a. Demonstrating excellent telephone etiquette, active listening skills, and resourcefulness to interact with physicians, clients and vendors.
b. Maintaining a courteous and helpful rapport with dealing with physicians, clients and co-workers.
c. Respecting the privacy of patients medical information by discussing this information only as necessary to perform their duties.
• Participates in the validation of laboratory methods and procedures to meet the changing health care needs of our patients.
a. Participating in method evaluations and development of new procedures to ensure the proper operation of the laboratory.
b. Performing other duties as assigned by the manager to support the department mission of service to patients and to providing quality diagnostic information.
• Adheres to all regulatory, institutional, and departmental policies to ensure laboratory accreditation.
a. Attending approved continuing education activities to meet laboratory performance guidelines.
b. Participating in annual competency testing.
c. Participating in laboratory proficiency testing to demonstrate continued expertise in clinical testing.
• Adheres to all regulatory and laboratory safety policies (OSHA) to provide a safe and secure environment for fellow employees.
a. Attending safety continuing education activities to meet regulatory guidelines.
b. Ensuring the safety of all by performing testing following the guidelines of Universal Safety Precautions.
Qualifications, Education & Experience
• Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related field.
• Certification from recognized organizations (e.g., ASCP, AMT).
• At least 3 years experience of NGS and have extensive knowledge of molecular biology techniques and applications (PCR, qPCR, sequencing, etc.).
• At least 3 years experience with nucleic acid extraction and quantification - FFPE tissues, Blood and Plasma.
• Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and data analysis.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
