SEN Teacher

Role Profile

Purpose of the role

To provide specialised teaching and learning support for students with diverse educational needs, ensuring that all learners are able to access the curriculum and achieve success within an inclusive school environment.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning Support

  • Provide direct teaching and intervention for students with special educational needs across Key Stages, using evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Design and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Student Support Plans (SSPs) to address identified learning barriers and set achievable, measurable goals.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom and subject teachers to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching materials for inclusion within mainstream classes.
  • Support small group and one-to-one learning sessions to reinforce classroom instruction and target specific skill areas.
  • Monitor, assess, and record student progress regularly, adjusting strategies to meet evolving needs.

Collaboration and Consultation

  • Collaborate with teachers, Heads of Year, and Heads of Department to develop inclusive teaching practices across the school.
  • Meet regularly with parents to share student progress, discuss strategies, and ensure consistent homeschool communication.
  • Liaise with external specialists (e.g., educational psychologists, speech and occupational therapists) to coordinate assessments and interventions where necessary.
  • Participate in student support or pastoral care meetings to contribute expertise on individual learning and behavioural needs.

Curriculum and Inclusion Development

  • Contribute to the school's inclusion policy and ensure compliance with international best practices.
  • Support the adaptation of curriculum content to meet the needs of a diverse student body, ensuring accessibility and challenge for all learners.
  • Promote a school-wide culture of inclusion, empathy, and respect for diversity.
  • Assist in identifying and supporting students with English as an Additional Language (EAL) who may have overlapping learning needs.

Professional Learning and Leadership

  • Actively participate in professional development opportunities related to SEN, inclusion, and differentiated instruction.
  • Provide training, workshops, and coaching for teachers and teaching assistants to enhance their capacity to support students with learning differences.
  • Contribute to whole-school initiatives and development plans focused on inclusive education.
  • Stay updated with current research, best practices, and pedagogical approaches in the field of special education.

Safeguarding and Wellbeing

  • Uphold the school's safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.
  • Promote student wellbeing and emotional resilience through positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all student-related matters.

Line management

The SEN Teacher /will report to the Head of Primary or Secondary.

Qualifications And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 35 years of teaching experience in an international or British curriculum school.
  • Proven experience working with students with mild to moderate learning difficulties in mainstream settings.
  • Strong knowledge of inclusive education practices, intervention strategies, and learning support methodologies.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Familiarity with British National Curriculum or other international curricula (e.g., IPC, IGCSE, A Levels) is highly desirable.
