Job Description

Our client is a global biotechnology company focused on developing breakthrough technologies in pursuit of scientific excellence in research. With a strong presence globally and an agile, growing team based in Malaysia, they are seeking a world-class Senior Accountant to support their growth in the market.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting according to local and U.S. GAAP, supporting consolidation, and managing key accounting functions for their Malaysian entity and supporting regional financial operations. Reporting to a Finance Director based in Australia, this is an excellent opportunity for an independent finance professional looking to grow within a dynamic, science-driven organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Closing & Reporting:

  • Manage the full spectrum of month-end and year-end closing activities for the Malaysian entity in accordance with local and U.S. GAAP.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and P&L analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports for consolidation with global headquarters.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of financial data.

Compliance & Controls:

  • Ensure compliance with local statutory requirements and U.S. GAAP.
  • Maintain robust internal controls and documentation for audit purposes.
  • Liaise with external auditors and tax agents for local statutory audits and tax filings.

Process Improvement & Collaboration:

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with global finance teams and local department heads (e.g., R&D, Operations) to ensure accurate financial recording.
  • Support ad-hoc financial projects and system implementations as needed.

Requirements

* Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional qualifications (e.g., ACCA, CPA, MIA) are highly preferred.

* Experience:

* Minimum of 5-6 years of relevant accounting experience.

* Previous experience working for a multinational corporation (MNC) is essential.

* Experience with U.S. GAAP reporting is a strict requirement.

Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, or healthcare related businesses supporting US operations is a strong advantage.

* Solid experience in full-set accounts, financial closing, and audit coordination.

* Skills:

* Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and advanced MS Excel skills.

* Meticulous, organised, and able to meet tight deadlines.

* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

* Excellent command of English (written and spoken) is mandatory for regional communication.

* Able to work independently and as part of a distributed team.
