We are hiring Senior/Business Development Manager (Malaysia) based in Kuala Lumpur to support SUNRATE's expansion in the Malaysian market. You will help shape and execute our GTM efforts across multiple customer segments and solution areas, contributing directly to Malaysia's growth trajectory. The role is high-impact, fast-paced, and suited for candidates who thrive in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
What you'll be spending your time on:
1. Business Growth & Sales Execution
- Identify, engage, and acquire new business clients across SMEs, mid-market, corporate and eCommerce segments.
- Develop and implement strategies to drive new business opportunities in priority customer verticals.
- Manage the end-to-end sales cycle: prospecting, qualification, solution design, negotiation, onboarding and account activation.
- Build strong client relationships to support ongoing growth and retention.
2. Industry Expertise & Solution Selling
- Leverage knowledge of payments, FX, treasury and eCommerce flows to position SUNRATE solutions confidently.
- Analyse client payment workflows, FX exposure and supplier/partner settlement patterns.
- Conduct market and competitor research to understand customer pain points and refine the Malaysia GTM direction.
- Support enterprise-level and institutional engagement in collaboration with the Country Manager.
3. Compliance & Risk Management
- Serve as the first line of AML/KYC review and ensure all clients meet internal compliance standards.
- Collaborate with regional compliance teams to conduct KYB/KYC and due diligence requirements.
- Stay informed about Malaysian regulatory developments impacting payments, FX and fintech activities.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product, Compliance, Operations, and Treasury teams to support onboarding flows and product localization.
- Provide structured feedback loops to improve customer experience and solution fit.
- Participate in marketing activities, events and ecosystem outreach to strengthen SUNRATE's brand presence in Malaysia.
For this role you should have:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Business Development / Sales within fintech, payments, FX, banking, or eCommerce.
- A baseline understanding of cross-border payments, FX pricing, treasury flows, or eCommerce payment operations.
- Proven ability to pitch, acquire and manage B2B clients (SME, mid-market, enterprise).
- Strong commercial instincts with the ability to map customer workflows and position actionable solutions.
- Entrepreneurial, self-driven and comfortable in a fast-paced, early-stage environment.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken).
- Knowledge of Mandarin and/or other widely spoken ASEAN languages is a strong advantage.
Not a Must but a Great Advantage:
- Existing network within Malaysia's SME, mid-market, eCommerce, or broader B2B commercial environments.
- Familiarity with Malaysia's payments regulatory environment (BNM requirements, FX rules, MSB structures).
- Exposure commercial cards, payout workflows, or treasury optimization.
- Experience in consultative selling involving multi-stakeholder enterprise engagement.
