Role Overview

The Senior Commissioning Engineer is responsible for executing and leading commissioning activities for Industrial Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP), Municipal Sewage Treatment Plants (STP), and Water Treatment Systems including Reverse Osmosis (RO), Ultrafiltration (UF), and Desalination Plants.

This role covers the full commissioning lifecycle, from pre-commissioning through startup, performance testing, client handover, and post-commissioning support, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Commissioning Activities

  • Execute and lead commissioning activities across various water and wastewater treatment projects.
  • Support and coordinate all commissioning phases, including:
  • Pre-Commissioning
  • Wet Commissioning
  • Process Commissioning
  • Performance Testing
  • Documentation and Client Handover
  • Post-Commissioning Support
  • Perform system testing, troubleshooting, and process optimization during startup activities.
  • Manage commissioning punch lists and ensure timely closure of outstanding items.
  • Support Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and Performance Testing with clients and stakeholders.

Engineering & Documentation

  • Review engineering documents including:
  • P&IDs
  • PFDs
  • Mass Balances
  • Design Basis Reports
  • Control Philosophy Documents
  • Cause & Effect Matrices
  • Work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control teams to ensure installations meet design requirements.
  • Prepare and review:
  • Commissioning Plans
  • Commissioning Procedures
  • Checklists
  • SOPs
  • O&M Manuals
  • Performance Test Procedures and Reports
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly commissioning progress reports.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

  • Conduct data analysis to identify and resolve process and equipment issues.
  • Troubleshoot treatment systems and support optimization efforts during startup and operation.
  • Identify defects related to equipment, instrumentation, piping, controls, and installation works.
  • Provide technical recommendations and support issue resolution throughout project execution.

Project Support

  • Collaborate with project, engineering, procurement, and site teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Support project execution, commissioning schedules, and project close-out activities.
  • Participate in client meetings, technical discussions, and handover sessions as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in commissioning, startup, operations, maintenance, or project execution within water and wastewater treatment industries.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial or municipal water and wastewater treatment systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with commissioning activities such as system testing, troubleshooting, startup support, performance verification, and plant handover.
  • Ability to interpret engineering documents including P&IDs, PFDs, technical specifications, and control philosophies.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams across Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control disciplines.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel locally and internationally when required.

Preferred Technical Experience

Experience in one or more of the following technologies is an advantage:

  • Reverse Osmosis (RO)
  • Ultrafiltration (UF)
  • Membrane Bioreactor (MBR)
  • Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR)
  • Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF)
  • Clarifiers
  • Chemical Dosing Systems
  • Sludge Dewatering Systems
  • Industrial and Municipal Wastewater Treatment Processes
