We are looking for a technically strong and hands-on Senior Compliance Manager to lead our compliance and regulatory affairs efforts in Malaysia. You will play a critical role as the go-to compliance advisor for our business and product teams, helping to shape and guide regulatory-compliant product development, licensing, and strategic growth. This role requires strong familiarity with Malaysia's financial regulatory environment, particularly Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) requirements and frameworks relevant to BNPL, Consumer Protection, Shariah Compliance, and Credit Risk.
While you will manage and mentor one compliance team member in Malaysia, this role requires someone who thrives as an individual contributor, enjoys solving complex regulatory questions, and is comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced fintech environment. You will also be exposed to regional compliance initiatives, collaborating with other country teams to ensure alignment with Group standards.
You will report directly to the Group Head of Compliance and be responsible for overseeing compliance matters in Malaysia, including regulatory engagement, internal control implementation, and board-level compliance reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide end-to-end regulatory compliance advice to business, legal, and product teams on both new product initiatives and ongoing operations in Malaysia
- Interpret and apply Malaysian financial services regulations pragmatically, including but not limited to BNM requirements on Consumer Protection, Shariah Compliance, and Credit Risk.
- Lead internal readiness efforts for Consumer Credit Act implementation, ensuring full compliance with CCOB TF(Consumer Credit Oversight Board Task Force) requirements and upcoming regulatory expectations.
- Coordinate, prepare, and submit license applications to regulators, and lead all regulatory examinations, audits, or inspections from BNM, CCOB TF and other authorities.
- Serve as the primary liaison with CCOB TF, BNM, and other relevant regulatory bodies, developing strategies to build strong, long-term relationships.
- Represent Malaysia at regulatory meetings, industry forums, and events, advocating for the company's perspectives and keeping abreast of regulatory trends.
- Draft, implement, and enforce internal compliance frameworks, controls, and policies aligned with regulatory obligations and Group standards.
- Monitor and assess the regulatory landscape in Malaysia, ensuring timely updates and business impact analysis.
- Formulate responses to regulatory inquiries in coordination with internal stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain compliance metrics and dashboards to support decision-making and ensure board-level oversight.
- Oversee and guide one compliance professional, while remaining personally hands-on, especially for high-priority and complex matters.
- Partner with regional legal and compliance colleagues to align group-wide approaches and share regulatory intelligence.
- Contribute to broader compliance efforts in Southeast Asia and support Group-led initiatives as required.
- Conduct internal compliance training to raise regulatory awareness and build internal capability.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in Law, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in regulatory compliance within financial services, ideally with a fintech, digital lender, BNM or CCOB TF.
- Strong technical understanding of the Malaysian financial regulatory landscape, including BNM guidelines and licensing requirements.
- Familiarity with CCOB requirements and Malaysia's evolving Consumer Credit Act landscape.
- Proven track record of managing regulatory engagements and developing compliance programs for a regulated entity.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex regulations into practical business actions.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally across business, operations, legal, and strategy teams.
- Self-starter who takes initiative to drive complex compliance projects from start to finish.
- Articulate in both written and verbal communication, with a strong command of policy drafting and regulatory correspondence.
- Prior experience managing team members will be a strong plus, but not required. Regardless, the successful candidate must demonstrate a strong mindset and commitment to developing talent within the team. This includes providing guidance, building capabilities, and creating an environment for high performance. Team leadership and people development will be a key part of how success is measured in this role.
Preferred
- Certification from ACAMs or other relevant accreditation bodies.
- Prior experience leading regulatory inspections or directly interfacing with Bank Negara Malaysia.
- Exposure to regional compliance projects or multi-jurisdictional regulatory frameworks across Southeast Asia.
- Experience working in a high-growth fintech, payments, or digital lending environment.
