Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end management of MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB and Amazon Aurora database systems, ensuring their stability, scalability, and reliability.
- Design and implement scalable and efficient database architectures that align with business requirements.
- Oversee the deployment of database changes, updates, and patches.
- Conduct in-depth performance tuning activities, optimising SQL queries, and database configurations for maximum efficiency.
- Implement and manage monitoring solutions to proactively address and prevent performance issues.
- Implement and manage high availability and disaster recovery solutions to minimise downtime and ensure data integrity.
- Orchestrate and manage database infrastructure using IaC to ensure consistent and automated provisioning.
- Drive database observability by establishing frameworks for metrics, logging, and tracing to maintain system health.
- Execute proactive capacity planning, implementing strategies such as table partitioning and data lifecycle management to handle growth.
- Build custom automation tools and models to streamline resource forecasting and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 2-4 years of experience in database engineering, with expertise in MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB and Amazon RDS/Aurora
- Strong knowledge of database design, performance tuning, and security best practices.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Domain experience in RDBMS/NoSQL databases: Redis, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Time Series Database.
- Leadership and mentorship skills.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP stack, Load balancer, Networking.
- Professional background within financial institutions or the banking sector.
- Proficiency in infrastructure management with any of Terraform/Ansible/Puppet & CI/CD.
- Strong understanding of observability principles and monitoring ecosystems.
- Expertise in scaling high-volume databases, specifically through partitioning and other optimization techniques.
- Good to have development background with the ability to create tools for system analysis; basic scripting (e.g., Bash or Python) is essential, while advanced automation skills are a plus.
