The role is part of the Engineering Design team based in Kuala Lumpur, responsible for delivering high-quality process packages for the Oil & Gas industry. The candidate will work within a dynamic team, supporting projects from concept through delivery.

The primary objective of this role is to contribute to efficient project execution, support the selection of Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) systems and equipment, and collaborate with other disciplines on interdisciplinary deliverables and tasks. The role also involves supporting project teams in achieving project goals while meeting client requirements within project cost and schedule constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Lead projects as the focal point for the E&I scope, maintaining responsibility for progress and productivity while identifying and implementing corrective actions when required.
  • Work independently and make sound technical and project-related decisions.
  • Monitor and manage Design Engineering Company (DEC) support activities.
  • Review client specifications, requirements, and project scope documentation.
  • Establish Control Philosophy in collaboration with the Process team.
  • Coordinate with the Process group regarding tagging, control, and instrumentation related to P&IDs.
  • Develop and maintain Instrument Index, IO List, ATSL, and Load List.
  • Establish automation system specifications (DCS, PLC, etc.) and IO requirements.
  • Prepare and review datasheets, RFQs, and quotation evaluations for Purchase Order placement.
  • Specify electrical items including lighting, electric heaters, thyristor control panels, and motors.
  • Determine IO counts, single-line diagrams, and automation system specifications.
  • Develop and maintain deliverables such as Power Consumption Lists, Interconnection Diagrams, Instrument Datasheets, Functional Logic Descriptions, etc.
  • Review E&I construction drawings including Hook-up Drawings, Termination Drawings, Installation Details, and Cable Block Diagrams.
  • Review and approve supplier documentation.
  • Support package engineers and other disciplines with E&I-related activities as required.
  • Participate in HAZOPs, SIL reviews, FAT, and related project activities.
  • Interface with clients through approved communication channels to clarify technical matters and raise Technical Queries when necessary.
  • Collaborate with vendors and multidisciplinary teams by providing E&I engineering input for equipment, component, and process system design activities, particularly for mechanical packages and E3D model reviews.
  • Support FAT, SAT, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities.
  • Manage and prioritize workload effectively to ensure timely document submissions in accordance with project schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with all HSE legislation and company HSE policies.
  • Maintain full compliance with departmental and company procedures, policies, and processes.
  • Review bid documentation and provide input to tender teams regarding pricing, scope, and planning.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (minimum qualification) in a relevant engineering discipline such as Electronics, Electrical, Control Systems, Telecom, or Automation.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a similar role within the Oil & Gas or related industry, preferably with FPSO experience.
  • Knowledge of hazardous area installations and standards such as IECEx, ATEX, NEC, and INMETRO.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and design codes including API, ISO, IEC, ASME, and NORSOK.
  • Knowledge of Brazilian NR requirements is an added advantage.
  • Experience in the design of electrical small power distribution systems, lighting, motors, and heat tracing systems.
  • Knowledge of field instrumentation, actuated valves, control systems, fire & gas systems, and telecom systems.
  • Experience in E&I construction drawings and E&I bulk material MTO preparation.
  • Familiarity with instrument installation, testing, calibration, and instrumentation measurement principles.
  • Strong capability to manage and monitor Design Engineering Company (DEC) activities to ensure project schedule adherence.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to understand construction and installation impacts during the design phase.
  • Field experience is an added advantage.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
