AIXTRON's new manufacturing & engineering hub in Malaysia
We are building a new greenfield manufacturing and engineering hub in Batu Kawan, Penang. The site will provide a
state-of-the-art cleanroom environment for assembly & testing of our high-end systems and will contribute to engineering for the
next generation of products. Operations are planned to start in 2027 with a rapid ramp-up. Beyond technology, the new location is designed as a
modern workplace with state-of-the art office and amenities —built to foster collaboration and a strong focus on people's wellbeing.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for
purpose-driven builders: hands-on professionals with entrepreneurial spirit who enjoy setting up structures, improving processes and taking ownership in a fast-moving environment. As pioneers of our Malaysia site, you will help to shape not only your function, but also how we work together locally — while being connected to a global team of around
1,000 employees from 60 nationalities across Asia, Europe and the US. We offer competitive benefits, outstanding technical expertise, development opportunities and training.
About The Role
As a Senior Engineer – Mechanical & Gas System Design, you will own the mechanical and vacuum architecture at the core of our deposition systems. You drive robust subsystem designs that meet the highest standards of performance and compliance.
From concept to release, you will lead critical cross-functional decisions — balancing performance, manufacturability, cost, and lifecycle robustness. You will turn complexity into engineered clarity and ensure every solution is built to perform, scale, and last.
Responsibilities
- Design and optimize complex mechanical architectures, vacuum systems, exhaust and gas handling systems
- Develop robust tolerance concepts and strategies using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles
- Select suitable materials (metals, graphite, ceramics, quartz, coatings) based on environment, cost and manufacturability
- Define subsystem requirements, architecture and interfaces; manage traceability and changes
- Conduct structured root cause analysis, 8D and failure mode and effects analysis to mitigate risks
- Ensure compliance with ISO, CE, SEMI and safety standards
- Drive design for manufacturing and cost-reduction initiatives
- Lead technical modules, mentor engineers and align cross-functional stakeholders
- Manage engineering documentation, product lifecycle management and enterprise resource planning data consistency
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 5–10 years of experience in mechanical system design within a high-tech environment
- Strong expertise in vacuum systems, thermal integration, pressure and flow fundamentals
- Advanced three-dimensional computer-aided design proficiency (e.g. Creo) and experience with product lifecycle management systems
- Structured problem-solving mindset with analytical thinking
- Strong ownership, cross-functional collaboration skills and technical leadership capability
- Fluent English
Working Conditions
- Role based at AIXTRON Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.
- Majority of work at the Batu Kawan site.
- Occasional travel to Headquarters in Germany or other regional sites.
