Key Responsibilities:
1. Corporate Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Prepare and review tax computations, including CP204 estimates and revisions
- Ensure timely submission of tax filings in compliance with LHDN requirements
- Support deferred tax calculations and tax disclosures for financial reporting
- Liaise with external auditors on tax-related matters
2. Project & Contract-Based Tax Management
- Review construction contracts and commercial terms to assess tax implications
- Advise on tax treatment for:
- Progressive billings and revenue recognition
- Variation Orders (VOs), claims, and LAD
- Retention sums and certification formats
- Support tender and commercial teams in evaluating tax impact on pricing and margins
- Monitor tax positions across ongoing projects, including timing differences and profitability
3. SST / Indirect Tax Compliance (Construction Focus)
- Ensure accurate application of SST on construction services (Group L)
- Review progress billings and certificates to ensure correct SST treatment (e.g. net vs gross, retention impact)
- Manage SST filings, reconciliations, and documentation
- Advise on:
- B2B exemptions within group entities
- Non-reviewable contracts and transitional rules
- Contract structuring to minimise SST inefficiencies
4. Withholding Tax & Cross-Border Transactions
- Assess withholding tax (WHT) implications on payments to foreign contractors, consultants, and service providers
- Ensure compliance with Double Taxation Agreements (DTA)
- Prepare and review WHT filings and supporting documentation
5. Tax Advisory & Planning
- Provide tax input for:
- New project tenders and contract structuring (local and overseas)
- Joint ventures, consortium arrangements, and cross-border projects
- Identify and support applications for tax incentives, allowances, and exemptions
- Support Group-level tax planning initiatives
6. Tax Audit & Risk Management
- Manage tax audits and investigations by LHDN
- Prepare responses, documentation, and justifications for tax positions
- Identify potential tax risks in operations and contracts, and recommend mitigation measures
- Maintain proper tax documentation and audit trail
7. Ad-hoc
- Support tax aspects of corporate exercises (e.g. disposals, restructuring, intercompany arrangements)
- Participate in system implementation and process enhancement projects (tax-related, where applicable)
Requirements
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or equivalent (ACCA / CPA / CTIM preferred)
- Minimum 3–6 years of relevant tax experience, preferably in construction, engineering, or project-based industries
- Strong knowledge of:
- Malaysian corporate tax and SST framework
- Construction contract environment (e.g. billing, retention, long-term contracts)
- Experience handling tax audits and liaising with tax authorities (e.g. LHDN)
- Good analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
