Job Description

The Senior Legal Counsel supports the General Counsel in leading and managing the Legal Department, providing strategic legal guidance on matters impacting the business, and ensuring effective oversight of the legal budget. This role serves as a key legal advisor and managerial partner, helping to drive operational excellence, legal compliance, and risk mitigation across the organization. The role is responsible for conducting legal research, preparing and reviewing legal documents, and leading contract negotiations. It collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders, external regulators, and outside counsel to support the company's legal and regulatory obligations. Additional responsibilities include overseeing litigation and dispute resolution matters, managing internal governance frameworks, and monitoring compliance and risk‑management policies. The Senior Legal Counsel also delivers training on the Code of Business Ethics (COBE) and general legal awareness, conducts investigations arising from step‑in hotline reports, and proactively identifies, mitigates, and manages legal risks to safeguard the organization's interests.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic, commercially pragmatic legal advice across operations and projects
  • Oversee major commercial contracts, negotiations, and regulatory documentation
  • Manage disputes, claims, investigations, and regulator/JV partner engagements
  • Support O&G tenders, ITB evaluations, and contract risk reviews
  • Oversee governance, COBE training, compliance programs, and HSE regulatory updates
  • Manage offshore insurance, D&O coverage, and legal support during incidents
  • Partner with HR on industrial relations and workforce-related issues
  • Provide company secretarial support, including statutory compliance and board/committee documentation
  • Manage the legal budget and optimise external counsel spend

Qualifications

Job Requirement

  1. LLB or equivalent with eligibility to practice law.
  2. Minimum 10–12 years of PQE in corporate/commercial law both in-house and practice
  3. Prior upstream oil and gas experience
  4. Experience supervising legal professionals.
