Job Description:

The Senior Legal Counsel will be responsible for overseeing all legal matters within the organization, with a strong focus on supporting commercial partnerships with merchants, payment providers, and other key strategic stakeholders. This position is pivotal in ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions while aligning the legal framework with the company's strategic and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Legal Advisory & Strategy

Deliver expert legal counsel on matters involving digital payments, financial services, e-commerce, intellectual property, and commercial operations. Monitor regulatory changes and advise senior leadership on potential legal and business impacts.
  • Contract Management
Prepare, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including merchant service contracts, payment processor arrangements, and technology/vendor agreements, ensuring alignment with company policies and risk management frameworks.
  • Regulatory Compliance
Partner with compliance and risk teams to maintain adherence to legal requirements relating to AML/CFT, data protection (e.g., GDPR/PDPA), consumer protection, and licensing obligations. Provide support for regulatory submissions, audits, and official inquiries.
  • Risk & Dispute Management
Proactively identify legal risks and recommend practical, business-oriented solutions. Oversee external legal counsel and manage responses to disputes, claims, and investigations.
  • Corporate Governance
Assist with governance matters, including oversight of group structures, secretarial duties, and internal legal reporting. Provide legal support for investment activities, financing arrangements, and corporate restructuring initiatives.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Holds a recognized Law degree (LL.B Hons) and has been called to the Bar in at least one jurisdiction.

  • Brings a minimum of 8 years post-qualification experience, including legal practice in litigation or corporate conveyancing, as well as prior in-house counsel experiencepreferably in fintech, digital commerce, or the tech sector.

  • Possesses a solid understanding of commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, and cross-border legal issues.

  • Familiarity with digital platforms, merchant relationships, or financial service partnerships is considered a strong advantage.
