Position Summary:
The Senior Legal Counsel will provide high-level legal advice and support to senior management and business units, ensuring the organization's operations comply with applicable laws and regulations. The role requires a proactive, commercially-minded legal professional capable of managing complex corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and guidance to senior management and business units on corporate, commercial, regulatory, and compliance matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, contracts, and corporate documents.
- Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and governance requirements in Malaysia and relevant jurisdictions.
- Manage and oversee disputes, litigation, and other legal proceedings involving the organization.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic investments, including conducting legal due diligence, structuring and negotiate deals and transaction and manage issues and execution.
- Advise on applicable laws and handles related matters including intellectual property, employment law,anti-bribery compliance, data protectionwhere applicable.
- Develop, implement and monitor organization-wide legal policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Liaise and coordinate with external legal counsel, regulators, and other stakeholders.
- Guide, support and manage the legal team members to build internal capabilities.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent; admission to the Malaysian Bar is required.
- Minimum 1015 years of post-qualification experience in corporate/commercial law, preferably in-house or at a reputable law firm.
- Proven experience in handling corporate, commercial, regulatory, and dispute resolution matters.
- Strong understanding of Malaysian legal and regulatory framework, with exposure to cross-border transactions being an advantage.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Commercially minded, with the ability to provide pragmatic and actionable legal advice with diverse industries exposures.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in managing external counsel and legal budgets
