Adecco's client, a leading player in the automotive industry, is seeking a seasoned Senior Legal Manager to oversee all legal and compliance matters for its Malaysia operations. This role will play a critical part in supporting business expansion, particularly in joint ventures, manufacturing and engineering (M&E), and strategic partnerships.
The ideal candidate is a commercially astute legal professional with strong experience in JV structures, manufacturing environments, and cross-border dealings, particularly with regional stakeholders. This position requires a high degree of independence, with the ability to operate as a trusted legal advisor to the business while navigating a dynamic and evolving environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all legal matters relating to the establishment and structuring of the joint venture (JV), including drafting, negotiation, and governance frameworks
- Provide legal support for manufacturing & engineering (M&E) operations, including plant setup, vendor agreements, and operational contracts
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements (e.g., procurement, distribution, partnerships, and service agreements)
- Act as the primary legal advisor to business leaders, providing practical and commercially sound legal guidance
- Liaise closely with regional stakeholders and management teams on legal documentation and cross-border matters
- Ensure compliance with Malaysian legal and regulatory requirements, as well as internal corporate governance standards
- Identify legal risks and implement mitigation strategies to support business continuity and growth
- Manage external counsel and oversee any dispute resolution or litigation matters
- Support strategic initiatives including business expansion, partnerships, and investments
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) and qualified to practice (Malaysia or equivalent jurisdiction)
- Minimum 1012 years of legal experience, preferably within automotive, manufacturing, or heavy industry environments
- Strong hands-on experience in joint ventures (JV) and manufacturing & engineering (M&E) legal work
- Proven ability to operate independently in a standalone legal role within a new or evolving business setup
- Experience working with or supporting China-based stakeholders is highly preferred
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
