My client is a top-tier, globally recognized reinsurance company with a highly respected Life & Health practice and a strong footprint across the Asia-Pacific region.
They are currently seeking a highly capable and commercially minded Senior Life & Health Underwriter/ Underwriting Manager based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to drive risk management excellence and support the growth of their regional L&H portfolio.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and underwrite complex Life & Health facultative cases, conducting comprehensive medical and financial risk assessments within delegated authority limits
- Act as a key technical point of contact and consultative partner for ceding companies, providing expert advice on underwriting philosophies, manual updates, and complex risk inquiries
- Collaborate closely with Pricing, Actuarial, and Business Development teams to support the design, structuring, and launch of innovative L&H reinsurance solutions
- Conduct client training sessions, underwriting audits, and regular portfolio reviews to ensure sustained profitability and adherence to Group guidelines
- Build and maintain robust relationships with direct insurer clients, brokers, and internal regional stakeholders across Southeast Asia
- Monitor market trends, regulatory developments, and medical advancements to continuously refine underwriting strategies and risk management frameworks
Requirements:
- Minimum 7 to 10 years of solid experience in Life & Health underwriting; experience gained from either direct life insurers or reinsurers is highly welcome
- Strong technical foundation in both medical and financial underwriting for life, critical illness, and medical/health products across Asian markets
- Proven track record in client-facing or stakeholder management roles, with a commercial mindset and the ability to influence and advise cedants effectively
- Relevant professional insurance/underwriting qualifications (e.g., LOMA, FLMI, ALU) are highly advantageous
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills (able to collaborate effectively in a matrix, cross-border environment)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous, data-driven approach to risk evaluation
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Science, Actuarial Science, Business, or a related discipline
