JOB OVERVIEW:
The Senior Management position will be responsible for strengthening environmental governance, ensuring regulatory compliance and embedding sustainable practices across the organisation's operations and projects. The successful candidate will work closely with senior management, operational teams, project teams, regulators, consultants and other stakeholders to manage environmental risks and support the organisation's long-term sustainability objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the development and implementation of the organisation's operational sustainability and environmental strategies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable environmental legislation, regulations, licences, approvals and internal requirements.
- Provide environmental and sustainability guidance for operating assets and major development projects.
- Oversee environmental impact assessments, environmental management plans, monitoring programmes and regulatory submissions.
- Manage environmental matters relating to air emissions, water, wastewater, scheduled waste, hazardous materials, land and biodiversity.
- Establish and monitor environmental performance indicators, targets and improvement plans.
- Lead environmental compliance audits, site inspections, incident investigations and corrective-action programmes.
- Identify and manage environmental, sustainability and climate-related operational risks.
- Drive initiatives relating to carbon management, resource efficiency, waste reduction and circular-economy practices.
- Support the collection, validation and analysis of environmental and sustainability performance data.
- Provide operational input for sustainability, ESG and regulatory reporting.
- Monitor emerging environmental legislation, regulatory developments and industry practices.
- Maintain effective working relationships with regulatory authorities, consultants, communities and other external stakeholders.
- Support environmental due diligence for projects, investments and business opportunities.
- Develop policies, procedures, guidelines and operational controls relating to environmental and sustainability management.
- Build environmental awareness and competency through training, engagement and knowledge-sharing programmes.
- Lead, guide and develop the environmental and sustainability team.
- Prepare environmental performance reports, risk updates and recommendations for senior management and relevant governance committees.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Sustainability or a related discipline.
- A postgraduate qualification in environmental management, sustainability or a related field would be an advantage.
- Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in environmental management, regulatory compliance or operational sustainability, including experience in a leadership capacity.
- Experience in energy, power, waste management, engineering, construction, infrastructure or another regulated industry is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian environmental legislation, regulatory requirements and approval processes.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with regulatory authorities and managing environmental submissions, licences and compliance matters.
- Practical experience in environmental auditing, risk assessment, incident investigation and corrective-action management.
- Familiarity with ESG reporting, carbon management, climate-related risks and recognized sustainability frameworks.
- A relevant DOE-certified environmental competency qualification would be an added advantage.
- Strong leadership, analytical, communication and stakeholder-management capabilities.
- Able to balance regulatory compliance, operational requirements and broader sustainability objectives.
- Willing to travel to project and operational sites when required.
