Job Description

Job Purpose

To lead the strategic communications and media relations function of a public transport organisation, shaping trusted public narratives, managing reputation and crises, and ensuring clear, timely, and credible communication that supports service reliability, stakeholder confidence, and national mobility objectives.

Key Accountabilities

Strategic Communications Leadership

  • Set and execute an integrated communications strategy aligned with corporate goals, public policy, and service priorities.

Media Relations

  • Oversee media engagement, messaging frameworks, press briefings, and spokesperson readiness to ensure accurate and consistent representation.

Crisis & Issues Management

  • Lead communications during service disruptions, safety incidents, and reputational risks with speed, transparency, and empathy.

Reputation & Narrative Management

  • Proactively manage organisational reputation, thought leadership, and public trust across traditional and owned channels.

Government & Regulatory Communications

  • Coordinate strategic messaging with ministries, regulators, and authorities on policy, funding, and service matters.

Executive Communications

  • Advise and support senior leadership with speeches, key messages, Q&A briefs, and strategic narratives.

Performance Measurement & Insights

  • Establish KPIs, monitor sentiment and media impact, and provide insights to inform decision-making and strategy refinement.

Team & Capability Development

  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing communications and media relations team.

Qualifications, Skills & Knowledge

  • Degree in Mass Communications or an equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 Years working experience as Senior Manager in related fields.
