Role Overview
CGI Malaysia is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Business Consultant to support a key client in assessing and shaping manufacturing capabilities, process readiness and digital manufacturing improvement opportunities across production and quality operations.
This role is business facing and requires strong credibility with Production Managers, Quality Managers and operational stakeholders. The consultant will lead interviews, workshops and current state assessments to identify operational pain points, document process gaps and support the development of practical recommendations for MES / digital manufacturing initiatives.
The successful candidate will combine manufacturing domain knowledge, Lean / Operational Excellence thinking, strong facilitation skills and structured documentation discipline to translate shop floor realities into actionable capability models, requirements and improvement roadmaps.
Key Responsibilities
1) Manufacturing Process Assessment & Discovery
. Conduct structured stakeholder interviews with production, quality, maintenance, planning, engineering, IT and operations teams to understand current state ways of working.
. Document end to end current state manufacturing processes, including shop floor execution, production planning touchpoints, quality inspection, traceability and issue escalation flows.
. Identify operational pain points, process inefficiencies, manual workarounds, data gaps and capability constraints affecting production performance, quality and visibility.
2) Workshop Facilitation & Stakeholder Alignment
. Lead capability assessment workshops with operational stakeholders to validate current state findings and identify priority improvement areas.
. Facilitate discussions with Production Managers and Quality Managers using manufacturing language and examples that reflect shop floor realities.
. Drive alignment across business and IT stakeholders on process priorities, critical dependencies, risks, assumptions and decision points.
3) Capability Modelling & Requirements Elicitation
. Develop capability models covering manufacturing execution, quality management, traceability, production planning, shop floor visibility and operational governance.
. Elicit, structure and document high level business requirements for MES or digital manufacturing initiatives, ensuring requirements are clear, testable and linked to business value.
. Translate operational needs into process models, pain point summaries, requirement themes and recommendation inputs for solution/design teams.
4) MES / Digital Manufacturing Advisory Support
. Support assessment of MES and digital manufacturing opportunities, including where digital workflows, shop floor data capture, traceability or quality controls can improve operational outcomes.
. Collaborate with digital manufacturing, IT architecture, application and data teams to ensure business findings are reflected in solution recommendations.
. Provide manufacturing domain input into roadmap development, prioritization and business case discussions.
5) Documentation, Validation & Recommendation Development
. Consolidate interview findings, workshop outputs and process observations into clear, executive ready documentation.
. Validate findings with operational champions / OCs and relevant business stakeholders to ensure accuracy and shared ownership.
. Support development of recommendations, including quick wins, capability gaps, implementation considerations and change impacts.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
. 7 12 years of experience in manufacturing consulting, operational excellence, MES advisory, digital manufacturing or related transformation roles.
. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, shop floor operations, production planning, quality management and traceability.
. Experience supporting MES or digital manufacturing projects, preferably in complex, high volume or high compliance manufacturing environments.
. Experience working directly with Production Managers, Quality Managers and operational teams able to lead credible conversations on practical manufacturing challenges.
. Strong workshop facilitation, process modelling, requirements elicitation and documentation skills.
. Ability to identify pain points, analyze root causes and structure recommendations that balance business value, operational feasibility and implementation complexity.
. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills able to operate independently in a client facing consulting environment.
Preferred Certifications / Knowledge
. Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Operational Excellence or continuous improvement certification / training is an advantage.
. MES / MOM knowledge or exposure to platforms such as Siemens Opcenter, Camstar, SAP Digital Manufacturing, Apriso, Rockwell, GE Proficy or equivalent is a plus.
. Familiarity with manufacturing KPIs such as throughput, cycle time, yield, scrap/rework, OEE, right first time quality and schedule adherence.
. Understanding of Industry 4.0, digital thread, paperless manufacturing, eDHR/eBR concepts, traceability and shop floor data capture.
Strong Advantage
. Electronics, semiconductor, discrete manufacturing or high tech manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
. Experience conducting manufacturing maturity assessments, capability assessments or digital roadmap workshops.
. Exposure to quality processes such as non conformance, CAPA, defect handling, inspection, batch/serial traceability and audit readiness.
. Ability to connect shop floor operational issues to enterprise systems such as ERP, MES, PLM, QMS, planning and reporting platforms.
. Strong executive storytelling skills using PowerPoint, structured issue trees, capability maps and concise recommendation narratives.
Travel & Work Style
. Base office in Kuala Lumpur, with remote collaboration and potential client site workshops as required.
. Comfortable working directly with production, quality and IT stakeholders in workshop, interview and validation settings.
. Hands on, facilitative and delivery oriented working style with strong documentation discipline and follow through.
