Elom Initiatives (Elom) is a refugee community-based organization in Kuala Lumpur, actively supporting the refugee community in Malaysia since 2017. With a mission to empower refugees to reach their full potential, Elom envisions a society where refugees basic human rights are recognized and dignity is restored. The Elom Community Center, established in 2018 in Taman Sri Murni, serves as a safe learning and meeting space, offering education, women empowerment, health prevention, and livelihood programs. Through its holistic and inclusive approach, the organization fosters learning opportunities, community-based protection, and a sense of normalcy for refugees in the region.

Role Description

Elom Initiatives is seeking a dedicated Senior Math and Science Teacher for grades 6 to 9. This is a full-time, on-site role located in Batu Caves. Responsibilities include preparing and delivering engaging lessons in mathematics and science, including physics, in alignment with established curriculums. The teacher will create lesson plans tailored to students needs, assess academic progress, and provide feedback that fosters growth. Additionally, active participation in staff meetings and initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of education at the Elom Community Center is expected.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in Mathematics and Science, with knowledge of Physics.
  • Experience in Science Education and teaching students from grades 6 to 9.
  • Proficiency in Lesson Planning and curriculum development aligned with student needs.
  • Certification or qualification as a teacher, along with a commitment to professional development.
  • Ability to adapt teaching approaches for a diverse, multicultural learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to inspire and support students.
  • Preferred but not required: Experience in working with refugee or underserved communities.
